The California secessionist movement is fast becoming a political reality, even though it stands no realistic chance of ever succeeding.
In a crucial first step towards their long term goal, secessionists have successfully filed a ballot initiative proposing that the state become its own country and secede from the United States.
The initiative has now been cleared for signature gathering and will require 546,651 valid signatures by July 22nd in order to become a formal ballot initiative.
If successful, voters would be asked in 2028 the following question: “Should California leave the United States and become a free and independent country?”
According to the guidelines set out by its organizers, if over 55 percent of voters said “yes” on a turnout of over 50 percent, would constitute “a vote of no confidence in the United States of America.”
It would also then declare that the “will of the people of California” is to become an independent country.
On this basis, state authorities would be required to create a commission on the viability of California becoming an independent country.

What a negative way to start an article.
I can help California pack it’s suitcase, if they have a suitcase.
If they don’t have a suitcase, I bought one on special from Walmart.
If California succeeds in seceding, it will not be an independent country, it will become part of China, along with Oregon, Washington, and possibly British Columbia.
Please do! Remind them that they receive NO money from the federal gov’t INCLUDING MEDICARE, SOCIAL SECURITY, IBT CARDS, ETC.
From the way bass and newscum were groveling for federal funds, I’d say that this is not going to go anywhere.
Just my opinion.
Exactly. Far too few people think this through.
That’s the intent.
The US was long divided amongst countries and they are all just waiting to get the pieces.
It’s been divided into about 5 sections, with the West coast going to China and the South going to Mexico.
So let’s say 56% say yes.
Then all that does is set up a committee to study it.
Nothing more.
I doubt Commiefornia will last very long if they succeed from the Union.
I was looking forward to one or two conservative states seceding from California, Congress expelling the CA senators and Reps because of secession, and best of all a military governor appointed by Trump to put in voter ID, paper ballots and the same types of initiatives Trump had put in at federal level; all done before readmission. I figure it all take about 10 years for reconstruction and readmission to the union.
No, we let California secede, then we declare war and conquer.
This is Commiefornia. Symbolism beats substance.
Sand in their gears is probably a plus from our point of view.
I would vote for that. Designing a 49 star flag would be a problem.
A 49-state flag is easy ... 7 rows of 7 stars each.
Oh, I left out Hawai’i and Guam and Samoa and all our Pacific possessions.
OTOH we’d be down six Marxist-like senators for generations.
When it comes to California seceding from the Union, my first question is: “Would the DNC permit it?”
Buy property in Eureka. Port city. Everything north is Canada’s. South is Mexico’s.
Fine. GO!
Just let America keep eastern Washington, Oregon and California.
