"even though it stands no realistic chance of ever succeeding."
What a negative way to start an article.

I can help California pack it’s suitcase, if they have a suitcase.
If they don’t have a suitcase, I bought one on special from Walmart.

If California succeeds in seceding, it will not be an independent country, it will become part of China, along with Oregon, Washington, and possibly British Columbia.

From the way bass and newscum were groveling for federal funds, I’d say that this is not going to go anywhere.
Just my opinion.

So let’s say 56% say yes.
Then all that does is set up a committee to study it.
Nothing more.

I was looking forward to one or two conservative states seceding from California, Congress expelling the CA senators and Reps because of secession, and best of all a military governor appointed by Trump to put in voter ID, paper ballots and the same types of initiatives Trump had put in at federal level; all done before readmission. I figure it all take about 10 years for reconstruction and readmission to the union.

If the California secessionist movement is successful, maybe the western California counties can seceded from the Nation of California and become the fiftieth state of the USA.
I would vote for that. Designing a 49 star flag would be a problem.

When it comes to California seceding from the Union, my first question is: “Would the DNC permit it?”

Since there are no voters ID laws and everyone can mail in a ballot, I think we should all support them on this initiative.

Why make Mexico stronger?

Uh, this was tried and we had a civil war disallowing secession. I thought they just wanted to separate California into two or more states. Well, this could get interesting.

Oh please, please. Put then under martial law, declare them a territory, send their Congressional delegation and state legislature to Guantanamo, appoint a governor and run them like a prison camp. Divide them into three or four territories, and allow them to reapply for statehood, section by section when they have run enough time that they can be trusted not to overthrow a republican form of government for a second time. Oh and hang the coastal commission.

Forty-five percent of California is federal land — National Park Service, Forest Service, BLM, Department of Defense. If they go, we keep that. Because, “this land is your land, this land is my land....”

If California succeeds in seceding, they will be voting to fund by themselves:
- wildfire response and recovery.
- insurance costs by companies located only within the country of California.
- water contained only within their country unless they negotiate a treaty with the United States over waterways that flow into California.
- immigration and border control with Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and Oregon.
- income generation via income taxes, property taxes, estate taxes and sales taxes.
Good luck going at it all by yourselves, California.

I've got a better idea: Let it revert to territorial status, lose both senators and have all representatives be replaced by a single non voting representative. Let the governor of the territory be initially appointed by the administration.
Then, as sets of counties get their act together, let them petition for statehood. We could name the first one Jefferson.

Cool. California leaves and the US captures it and makes it a territory. Same benefits for the USA and Californians don’t get to vote in US federal elections.
