California Ballot Initiative to Secede the Union Cleared to Gather Signatures
Breitbart ^ | 01/24/2025 | Katherine Hamilton

A California ballot initiative proposing that the state become its own country and secede from the United States has been filed and cleared for signature gathering.

If the measure makes it onto the November 2028 ballot, it would ask voters: “Should California leave the United States and become a free and independent country?” local news outlet KCRA3 reported on Friday.

The guidelines would require 50 percent of registered voters to participate and a “yes” vote from 55 percent of voters, which would indicate “a vote of no confidence in the United States of America,” according to the report. The measure would further show that the “will of the people of California” is to become a country.

“According to the initiative’s language, it would not change California’s current government or relationship with the U.S. However, it would create a commission to report on California’s viability as an independent country,” the report states. “The initiative estimates one-time election-related costs, and forming a commission on national sovereignty and independence would cost $10 million. It estimates that operating the commission would take another $2 million in annual state costs.”

The circulation deadline is July 22, and the initiative requires 546,651 valid signatures.

“Legally seceding the country would require a constitutional amendment, which would require the approval of Congress and 38 states,” the report notes.

CA is the origin point of most technological innovation, both in computers/networking/AI AND DEFENSE.

They're moving a lot of that to Austin, TX.

Elon Musk has already left California.

If California becomes independent, more companies will leave California.

Austin, TX will become the new "Silicon Valley".

7th largest.
and if they seceeded a lot of jobs, companies and resources would move right away... and many already have.

also, certain locations will not be allowed to seceed. San Diego , pendleton and other military installations... which would put them WAY down the list of worlds economies.

They have no water of their own... except that which they can extort from Southern Oregon and northwards.

they will be bankrupt and need a bailout of major proportions by then.

It will not happen. And Calfornia is getting a severe come uppance. by the time they would vote on it... multiple millions of illegal fake voters will be repatriated elsewhere or incarcerated. Liberals and anti conservative baby killers in California will likely never win another election.

the times they are a changin’.

If we were not paying federal taxes we’d probably do well. We contribute more than we get back, unlike a lot of other states.

It’s not an emotional arguement. There is no way in hell it will pass. Therefore, it’s a waste of time, particulary with a president looking to grow the US.

Also, Trump got more votes from California than any other state except Texas.

Looks like they are only 5th largest.

CA gets no water from Oregon or points north. None.

CA is the LEAST likely of all the states to go bankrupt.

The South lived under a military government during Reconstruction.

California can have the same situation if they want it.

Texas will send them a gift basket for leaving,...

If only Texas could send back all its Californian immigrants.
