California Dreamin' Meets Reality
Jim Treacher Substack ^ | 10 Jan 2025 | Jim Treacher

It’s pleasant to believe things that aren’t true. It comforts you and makes you feel good about yourself. It wraps you in the warm, cuddly delusion that you’re better than the people who disagree with you.

Right up until the moment reality burns your house down.

It turns out the greatest danger to Los Angelinos isn’t sexism or fascism or 1/6 or the price of almond milk. It’s fire. And all that tax money they keep paying to their state and local government hasn’t saved them.

I hate when people say “Let me see if I get this straight,” because usually they don’t. But here’s my understanding of the Los Angeles wildfires so far:

- There’s no water coming from the fire hydrants, and California Governor Gavin Newsom says that’s for the “local folks” to figure out

- Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass was 7,500 miles away as the blazes raged, even though a Fire Weather Watch was declared a week ago and they all knew these heavy Santa Ana winds would be a problem

- The LA Fire Chief has been warning that an $18 million budget cut, approved by Bass, would hinder the department’s ability to prevent what’s happening right now

“It turns out the greatest danger to Los Angelinos isn’t sexism or fascism or 1/6 or the price of almond milk. It’s fire.”

That’s not what I’m seeing. A lot of the comments I’m seeing from the locals there say: It’s a terrible natural catastrophe. No one can be blamed, and if you are looking for accountability, you’re just a Trumpian idiot.

So what was the $18 million budget cut used to pay for? Because these Alt Leftists never actually spend less, they just re-arrange the deck chairs.

Failed leftist policies only hit home when it hits you in the face personally. The question is, will they learn and connect the dots between leftist government and their failed policies that you don’t want to vote for.

I believe it.

The US Democrat Party is a cult. They NEVER hold their political masters accountable. The master class in the Democrat party simple tell them a new lie to believe and the party peons all race around reagitating the new lie to each other and screaming at anyone point out the truth to them

Fire is a natural catastrophe. Dry hydrants are due to bad policy/management. You could say the same for arsonists running around loose.

Good find.

The author put things simply.

And the problem is not complicated.

Kalifornians voted for the gubmint they got.

What’s more they trusted it to keep them safe.

That is some kind of Kalifornia Dreamin’ alright.

very few in the media / political oligarchy understand that money is fungible. yeah the $17m was not for fire protection it was for blah blah. yet these morons can’t grasp that if the blah blah program still exists then the funds have to be pulled from some other planned expense. like fire equipment maintenance. It’s more complicated than that but only a duplicitous or imbecilic politician would justify the $17m cut as “ not for fire stuff” so it was perfectly fine to cut the overall budget.

“The US Democrat Party is a cult. They NEVER hold their political masters accountable.”

And that is why CA is an absolute lost cause, (sorry northern CA). Mention to one of those cultists that Pelosi makes $175k/year and is worth $110 million. The cultists aren’t even fazed they simply say: They all do it.

As if that makes it right.

Wait till they try to rebuild. IMHO, all those beautiful homes built when California was affluent, affordable, and had little in the way of restrictions (compared to today) are going to cost way more to rebuild than they were worth before they went up in planes.

Thanks to California labeling almost everything toxic or carcinogenic, won’t every destroyed home be a potential hazmat site? Won’t just cleaning up the properties for rebuilding also cost a ton of money?

She wishes it were farther. Are they taking space tourism reservations like William Shatner's?

“No one can be blamed...”

They have to say that (denial) because they, the democrat voters, themselves are to blame.

Adam Carolla said that Celebrities living in Malibu will become MAGA because they will demand to have their homes rebuilt.

RE: danger is fire....

Fire
Song by The Crazy World of Arthur Brown (1968, #1 and Gold Record)

You fought hard and you saved and earned
But all of it’s going to burn

Fire, to destroy all you’ve done
Fire, to end all you’ve become
I’ll feel you burn

You’ve been living like a little girl
In the middle of your little world

Maui fire has a similar problem most those houses were Plantation homes with all sorts of bad things in them.
Hawaii’s environment laws make CA laws look like a
walk in the park.
I can speak on the subject as I was born and raised in LA county and have lived in Hawaii 25 years now.

Yeah and when you expose a bit of really ripe sleazy corruption like Adam Schiff lying to them daily about “Russian Collusion” they just laugh and say “Oh that just politics”

The DemoCommies are famous for "whataboutism".

It's the first card that my Democrat neighbor ALWAYS plays.

I just tell him that I hate establishment Republicans almost as much as I hate Democrat politicians, so he can just stow the whataboutism.

And they will re-elect Karen Bass.
