The Moore County Democratic Party chairman, who is also a candidate for a N.C. House race, was charged Friday in connection with the theft of political signs in Seven Lakes.

Lowell Evan Simon, 68, of West End was charged with two counts of misdemeanor larceny of political signs and was released under a written promise to appear in court. Simon’s first court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 30 in Moore County District Court.
Simon is a Democrat challenging incumbent Republican Neal Jackson in the N.C. House 78 district. He also has led the local Democratic party for the past year.
On Thursday, Oct. 10 at approximately 5:25 p.m., a Moore County Sheriff’s deputy working in the West End area reported observing Simon removing campaign signs from the roadside along Seven Lakes Drive. A Donald Trump and Mark Robinson sign were found in Simon's vehicle. Trump is the Republican party presidential candidate, while Robinson is the party’s candidate for N.C. governor.
According to a news release issued by the Sheriff’s Office Friday afternoon following media inquiries, the deputy later visited Simon at his home.
“Simon admitted to removing the signs,” the release said, “which were then recovered and returned to their original owner.”
In a brief interview with The Pilot, Simon said he was trying to rectify illegally placed GOP signs.
“There were some signs that were illegally placed,” Simon said. “What they are doing is, they are putting signs directly in front of or right up against other signs, and that’s a violation of the law, something we’ve known for years. You don’t do that because that’s illegal.”
Simon says he has been dealing with frequent sign improprieties.
“I have been dealing with this all week,” he said, “people calling me saying, ‘My Harris signs have been stolen,’ and, ‘Can you give me any more?’ All I do anymore is replace stolen signs.”
Simon said he got frustrated Thursday afternoon with the ongoing issues.
“I pulled them out and put them in the back of my car. I figured I’d bring them over to the GOP office.”
He added, “I wasn’t doing it in the dark of night; it was the middle of the afternoon, and they were putting it right in front of the Harris signs. I figured I’d bring them over.”
An arrest warrant for Simon was issued Friday morning in connection with the stolen signs.
“Sheriff Ronnie Fields reminds the public that the removal or theft of campaign signs is a violation of North Carolina General Statute 136-32(e), which protects the lawful placement of these signs during election periods,” the Sheriff’s Office release said.
Lock this miscreant up for a very long time.
Bad timing on his part.
Very.
Why do they do this stupid stuff?
I don’t know of anybody in any party that would be swayed by a campaign yard sign.
It happens every election and it totally ignorant no matter who does it.................
The lefties who do that stupid stuff are braindead.
I don’t buy his excuse..............
Just another commie lib-tard?
Yeah, the dog ate his lawn sign.
“...I figured I’d bring them over to the GOP office.”
Riiiiight................
The Moore County Democratic Party chairman!.............
Instead of contacting law enforcement he went rogue.
Here's your sign.........👆👆👆👆👆👆👆
Typical lying pos demonrat.
In Saginaw and Genesee county in Michigan you see little (and some large) Trump yard signs sprouting like dandelions. The big billboards along I-75 are Democrat territory but you only need money to get those up but the yard signs are voters.
About a 85/15 split for Trump.
So if they try to say that Saginaw and Genesee went for Harris in a landslide people are going to remember those little signs in yards and go "Wait a minute....."
Take away the visible support in yard signs and people might buy it.
“I don’t know of anybody in any party that would be swayed by a campaign yard sign.”
I disagree.
Billboards and yard signs are very effective. Name recognition works with people who vote but don’t follow politics.
Be vewwy quiet, we’wre hunting...

A local real estate company, with a conservative CEO, has placed several hundred Cornell West signs on properties in areas that typically vote democratic.
Is that fella a genius or not?
Nobody knows who Cornell West is.
I do and you do, but to the man on the street he might as well be running for city dog catcher................
Plays for the Houston Astros?
So they know what’s coming?
Sigh...Dem it!
