A computer simulation shows just how close Trump was to losing his life on Saturday.

The computer model shows three bullets taking the exact same path which is unlikely – and Trump shot in the ear twice (only one bullet grazed his ear).

Thinking of the closeness of that shot brought to my mind this dialogue from the movie Ben Hur where the Roman Consul Quintus Arrius calls the galley slave Ben Hur to his cabin to offer him the opportunity to be a gladiator:

One can look at the margin between being dead and being alive for Donald Trump, and think that God did not bring Donald Trump through his whole life, through all he has been through since 2016, to have him bleed out on a stage in Butler, PA. I would like to think he is a man destined for even greater things.

I don't think it is a stretch to consider that God has a purpose for Donald Trump. He has a purpose for all of us.

If I were his wife and daughters, I would be praising God that He chose to perform one of his rare and remarkable miracles to save the United States of America. I would sincerely hope I would never begrudge someone for receiving the extraordinary, unusual blessing of a miracle from God. God creates us with free will; he does not constantly interfere with that. When he does, it’s probably for a big purpose, and we should all try to be understanding of that, no matter how hard our own personal tragedies are.

I also believe divine intervention saved Trump. Howevever, I would recall Teddy Roosevelt survived an assassin’s bullet which was blunted by a steel eyeglasses case and a thick 50 page speech which were jammed in a vest pocket.

Corey Comperatore was a firefighter. He could have died a horrible death on any regular day at work.

Instead he lived until this weekend, and had the instinct (and honor) to protect his wife and daughter even if it killed him.

“Greater love hath no man,” and all that.

I’m a fine one to talk, because there was no one more bitter than me after my own father died. But I have come to realize that good is as big a mystery as evil, and I just have to trust.

Regarding the discussion of whether this constitutes a miracle or not...

A miracle, properly understood, is a "sign/wonder" by which God demonstrates His power, for the purpose of pointing humanity to His offer of salvation through Jesus Christ. That's it. God doesn't perform miracles to prop up political figures, no matter how important you might deem them.

But consider the concept of "Providence" of which the Founders generation so often spoke. That's what we should be considering here. God is not resting, and only occasionally taking some action. He is active all through our lives, every second of the day in every place, weaving the tapestries of our lives. People make it sound like God chose this one time to intervene in Trumps' life. Far from it. He had his good purpose to give Trump a narrow and remarkable escape, while allowing death (which comes to all men sooner or later) to take another man. And He had his reasons for each.

The rules of etiquette say you can drop the Jr on the way home from the funeral.
