Will Donald Trump avoid prison? It may depend partly on his ability to convince a probation officer that he would be “amenable to supervision.”
That’s according to Martin Horn, a former commissioner of both the New York City Department of Probation and the city’s Department of Correction, who spoke to POLITICO Magazine about the process Trump is about to undergo as he tries to stay out of the slammer.
In a typical case, a convict will be interviewed by a probation officer in the days after the verdict and be given the opportunity to accept responsibility and present mitigating factors that could reduce any sentence. That is going to be difficult for a man who has constantly railed against the case against him — not to mention the very judge who will decide the sentence.
Horn, who is a professor emeritus at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, said a probation officer will have to answer: “Is this individual going to accept that he has been justly convicted and accept the strictures and restrictions and requirements of a probation sentence?”
That will be one of several key factors for Justice Juan Merchan to weigh before he announces his sentence for the former president-turned-convicted felon on July 11.
Here’s how it all might play out for Trump.

Keep dreamin’ Politico.
Prison ? For what ?
Taxpayers are buying a parole officer a nice summer beach house on Long Island.
are they going to have the mistrial hearing after the sentencing?
If president Trump wins, I would like to see a Stalin type purge of the deep state.
Not revenge, but righteous retribution.
So let it be written, so let it be done.

Leftists continue to treat Trump as a lowly citizen with total disregard for his status as former president. These people HATE America, let alone Trump.
Prison for what..heck not even commies can say what supposed crime Trump committed other than being a Republican who is beating Pedo’s Joe’s sorry ass in the polls
That is a bullshit title.
Bull! Trump is going to be sentenced to prison, period. They dims didn’t do all this just to call him a felon. They MUST keep him out of office and putting him in prison will keep him off the campaign trial.
We will.see. ive heard that Trump’s conviction is the lowest level felony in New York law. And, especially since he’s a first offender, those convicted of a low level felony often escape a prison sentence.
But, because its Trump, he may well be sent to prison.
Netflix has series: Hitler and the Nazis: Evil on Trial. Very interesting and gradual build up that is similar to the liberals today.
They hate us.
Electric chair, most likely.
Let no one EVER regret what we are about to do to these communist monsters.
Of course Trump isn't showing "remorse" when he is innocent of their BS conviction. They take a misdemeanor he isn't guilty of (there were no falsified business records), long past the statute of limitations, and somehow connect it to a felony but won't tell him what that felony is--and even after the verdict we don't know what it was. Franz Kafka could not have imagined something this insane. But 96% of Democrats think the verdict was right, and it will be NY Democrats deciding his fate.
I think the only restraint on Merchan will be if he fears sentencing Trump to prison will make him more likely to win the election. So he may go for a prison term but allow him to be free on bond while the appeals are being considered.
He’s not going to avoid prison
Once my silly Catahoula dog caught up to a cat she was chasing. That cat was trapped. The dog looked at me and practically spoke English “eh…eh…um… what do I do now!!?”
That’s what these people are doing. Trump is going to jail. With his entire entourage of secret
Service, active duty EMS, cook, taste tester, communications devices, but prison
He’ll raise a billion dollars.
Someone said last week that he doesn’t have a campaign staff in most states
Em… apparently he doesn’t need one. This is it
I have sentenced thousands of defendants to state prison. I have NEVER demanded as a condition of probation that they confess their guilt after a jury verdict where they pled not guilty. Maintaining one’s innocence is not the same as showing a lack of remorse.
Here, there should be a presumption that probation is appropriate. Trump has no criminal record and this is the lowest class felony. But he will have to accept the terms of probation, and one of which is to regularly report to his probation officer in New York. He could be ordered not to leave NY with out the probationer officer’s consent. They could make it so that he couldn’t campaign. He may then opt to refuse probation, take a prison sentence, and get bail on appeal.
I hope all this blows up in the democrats’ collective faces.
Or he could stay in NYC and do virtual rallies. He could milk the sentence for several million votes.
“continue to treat Trump as a lowly citizen with total disregard for his status”
That’s the point of all this.
To treat him as beneath the law - just another government employee out of a job.
