when they're really different stories

Then why did they call it "RoadHouse" and bill it as a remake?

Why didn't they call it "Bouncer" and say it was a new film?

Because they knew no one would watch it?

What with the Corona virus and public objecting to the “Woke” garbage Hollywood’s been pushing they’ve become overly reliant on sequels, franchises and remakes. This was a case where the ‘remake’ barely resembled the original, but at least it was mostly entertaining compared to that other Patrick Swayze actioner, “Point Break”. That remake was so bad I turned it off after 30 minutes.

So the answer is "yes".

If you are going to rip off someone else's work and try to use it to make your own creation sell better you need to give the original it's due respect.

The last thing that I had such a immediate revulsion to was the "Perry Mason" remake on one of the cable channels.

They decided that Perry Mason, WWII Navel Vet, lawyer was not acceptable and made it Perry Mason, WWI Army Vet, private detective. It just did not work. It was not that they had story lines that were so stupid that they made you brain hurt, that is expected any more. It was the fact that they knew they were not going to be able to get people to watch it without sticking the name of a much better character that they did not create on the title page. If they wanted to make Merry Pason, WWI Army Vet, private detective who somehow had 2020 sensibilities fine. Just leave the ESG original out of it.

Your options are make your own stuff and be brave enough to put your name to it or do a remake with appropriate respect to the original work.

If you can not do either one or the other expect people who know what you are doing to be displeased.

Ah yes,the television regurgitations. That's an up and down history with shows like "Hawaii 5-0" being excellent and "Battlestar Galactica" very good but most others not hitting the mark. "The Equalizer" (old fat woman rapper kicking everyone's ass? LOL LOL), "McGuyver portrayed by an obvious dolt, "Magnum P.I." where Higgins is the smarter British woman saving his butt all the time...

We're not at "Doctor Who" level desecration yet but getting there fast.

It's only missing one thing.

The great Terry Funk passed away a short while ago probably acerbated from the injuries he accumulated from his all-or-nothing style of pro wrestling - but at 79 that was an astonishing run. While his father and brother went with polished Greco-Roman he went total outlaw, often bringing a branding iron to the ring apron for advantage when the the referee was (scripted) looking away.

But by all accounts a great man who never balked at putting others over when asked. I wish he'd been in more movies than Over the Top, Rambo III, Road House, and The Ringer.
