John Mellencamp has issued a blunt, powerful statement calling for gun control in America.
Posting on his social media channels, the 72-year-old singer/songwriter writes, "Excuse me for stating the obvious truth. I do so out of love for this country and the pain of learning, once again, that children have been killed by gun violence.
"If we as a country want to find the collective will within ourselves to change our gun laws, let’s stop playing silly political games. Show the carnage on the news. Show the American people the dead children and others who have been struck down. Show us what guns and bullets can do to the human body.
The angry comments beneath Mellencamp's statement are an indication of just how badly the issue of gun control divides US citizens.
One comment reads, "When I see what guns can do to children it makes me want to buy another gun to protect children from such carnage."

Show the shooter for every instance and identify illegals and gang affiliation.
Suddenly there’ll be a call for tough enforcement and civilian ownership. “Oops.”
Rich people telling us that we shouldn’t guns - from behind their armed bodyguards and security.
~~~
Yep. I’m sure melloncamp things that disarming the the law-abiding and leaving them in the hands of criminals will make society better.
I don’t know if I had a lot of respect for mr. “small town” because I’m always cynical about any ‘celebrity’, but here is another rich, insulated moron who probably lives far away from the violence or in a gated community, and travels with protection.
Sounds like a little ditty about Jack and dyin’
Correct. The number of abortions vs children dead from guns is not even comparable.
Why should anyone listen to Melloncamp. Who the hell is he? His opinions are no more important or valid than some homeless guy on the street.
Black criminals will all turn in their guns because white celebrities tell them to...
Lol.
AKA "YOUR" people
(leftist hollywood, leftist music industry, leftist perverts....).
Show pictures of innocent people who were killed by rapists, people killed by strangulation, drug overdoses, alcohol and marijuana traffic “accidents”, people stabbed to death, drug overdoses, people killed by medical “errors”, and mostly people killed because they couldn’t protect themselves with a firearm(especially women and children).
John Mellencamp is officially, a short sighted, emotionally controlled person. Not fit for any overseeing role. Hopefully, he will learn how to make sure others can protect themselves from people who try to kill them, because he certainly can’t. Life doesn’t always go on, John.
To use it in Mellencamp’s lingo, we have too many single Diane’s raising kids without Jack after the fun in the “backseat of Jackie’s car”. People wouldn’t murder so much if we let the “Bible Belt come and save our souls”.
Let’s do this for ALL the murdered children. The babies killed in the womb will quickly overwhelm this.
Let the people out in TV Land see the ethnicity of the shooters.
The only reason TV Networks and Online video web sites won’t show dead bodies is because advertisers won’t buy advertising with them. YouTube is now censoring WWI and WWII documentaries if they even show a small part of a dead body in a picture or video.
Yup. Mellancamp lives on the exclusive, private Daufuskie Island off of Hilton Head. Pretty safe over there. Instead of the victims, the media should broadcast pictures of the perps. It would be nice to know who is killing the kids.
American Fool.
Teens aren’t children.
“faces, ages, rap sheets, culminative time served, gang affiliations,”
ya ... I don’t think they want to do that ...
“dead children and others who have been struck down.”
“dead children” sounds so much simpler....
than tatted up gang banging thug...... But I agree , lets put the info out there and see where all this “gun” violence is.
I don’t think “gun” is the root word they need to use.
Shut up and sing, Mellonhead.
