MILEI DOES DAVOS
Powerline ^ | 18 Jan 2024 | Scott Johnson

Niall Ferguson recommends that we take in the whole of the speech given by Argentina’s President Javier Milei yesterday to the assembled globalistas at Davos. Ferguson characterizes the speech as “a magnificent defense of individual liberty and the free market economy.”

These must have sounded like fighting words: “Today I’m here to tell you that the western world is in danger…because those who are supposed to defend the values of the west have been co-opted by a vision of the world that inexorably leads to socialism, and therefore to poverty” (transcript here). How do you say bingo in Spanish?

Argentina has had plenty of time to learn the folly of leftist policy.

He needs to speak to congress. Trump wins first.

So how did he get invited to speak at Davos?

He needs to speak to congress.

Sure, he could. But honestly, wouldn't it be a waste of his time?

He speaks truth, and he speaks it in public. He needs to move fast, and keep ahead of those who will try to stop him.

Brave man. I fear for his safety, just as I fear for Trump's safety. The Left, in Argentina and in America, is desperate to maintain power. They will do anything to keep control, including assassination.

I hope he knows how to sleep with one eye open.

Argentina might lead what's left of the West in the future. They have a lot of natural resources. They are descended from Europeans. The only thing us that Peronism really messed them up.

USA had a great run but we're not looking too good now. So it might be Argentina's time to shine.

At one time, and not too long ago, Argentina had one of the highest standards of living in the Western Hemisphere. And even for all the economic missteps prior governments have taken, it is still a very rich country.

It’s the raising eyebrows effect. He’ll speak in Spanish and the Spanish speakers here will get it. More than they would with their plantation masters.

Around 1920. They were right up there with USA. Then we took off. And they fell behind. But like you said, their standard of living is still pretty high.

Fifty years ago I remember reading about the emerging South American economic powerhouses of Brazil and Argentina. For whatever reasons here we are ... and there they are.

Anglo-Saxon/German work ethic.

But that won't be the case anymore due to our changing demographics. We're becoming a salad bar instead of a meeting pot. So we'll be more like Brazil eventually. Brazil is pretty formidable but they're not quite an economic superpower. Germany suffered two World Wars yet they have one of the strongest economies in the world. But they decided to import millions of Muslims so we'll see what happens.

Institute the US constitution and invite freedom loving, educated and producers to the country. Watch the country explode into a bastion of freedom, productivity and opportunity.
