Another “strong, independent” woman who thought she could have it all.

Eventually she will find some sucker to marry, have a few pups, then divorce with all the goodies. Only to do it all over again.

A few days of USN duty as a “deck ape” might correct his attitude. Reville at 0530, 0545 out on deck to sweep, scrub and swab. 0600, reville for the rest of the crew. 0630, breakfast. 0715, quarters for muster, plan of the day and sick call (“All weak, lame and lazy report to sick bay”). 0800, “Turn to, commence ship’s work”. Scraping, sanding, prepping and painting, sometimes over the side in a Bosun’s chair or on a suspended stage for hull maintenance; in a Bosun’s chair hoisted aloft to slush down (lubricate and preserve) standing rigging, or working on bulkheads, ladders and hatches. Polishing brass and other brightwork. Cleaning the bilges of the Captain’s Gig, the officers’ motor boat and the 50 foot utility boat.
1120, early chow for the oncoming watch. 1200, mess call. 1300, Turn to. Continue ship’s work. Holystone wood decks with sand, wash and swab. Working party to strike stores delivery below. Frap/unfrap mooring lines and install/remove ratguards. Sweepers to the pier. 1600, “Sweepers man your pbrooms. Sweep down all decks, ladders and passageways. Empty all s**tcans in the dumpster on the pier.” 1600, Liberty call…but that’s only if you’re not in the duty section. 1630, early supper for watch relief for 1600-2000 watch.
Typical watches in port: messenger of the watch, deck security watch. 0000-0400 (midwatch) , 0400-0800 morning watch, 0800-1200 forenoon watch…etc.
And we haven’t even got to sea yet!

Yes, she’s losing 4 hours a day just to drive. That’d really stink. It’d be better to have a 4 hour longer work day - at least you’d be getting paid for that.

Though...putting on a public video on social media to subject yourself to public ridicule doesn’t make it better...

Isn’t that the truth!

I have reached the point where I am on call 24x7, but I only get called if all the young-uns can’t figure out a fix! (I am the old guy now)

I worked clinically in Nuclear Medicine for about ten years, and got to the point just hearing the beep of a pager on television or a radio commercial made me literally twitch and cringe.

When I got paged for that, I had to go in...usually it would be three to four hours minimum until I was back home...sometimes I would get paged twice in a night, and still had to be at work at 6 AM the next day, even if I had no sleep!

I feel bad for this girl, not because I feel sympathy, but...she is going to have a tough life, and nobody has attempted to prepare her for it.

wait until you see the taxes they’ll be taking out.

The even bigger shock is when she finds out she's paying for grandma's social security.

This generation is going to go ballistic when they understand what the FICA deductions from their paychecks are all about.

I’m embarrassed that I watched it that far, but that’s when I closed out.

I had to move myself and my kids two hours away in order to take a job that started my career. I had to work weekends and holidays with my job, and I didn't have a choice of jobs or hours, until I became permanent, and could bid jobs based on seniority. The less time you had, the only jobs available were the ones no one else above you wanted. It wasn't easy then either. And if I wanted to accept a promotion, I would have likely had to move down toward NY City, which I would have never done. I would have rather worked two jobs here, then work to pay rent in that $hit hole. If you want something bad enough, you have to make sacrifices.

I've never owned a home, but anybody with half-a-brain, or who has watched any house-hunting shows, whether it's in this country, or internationally, knows that rents are always more if you choose to live in a big city. Her choices are the job or the commute. No matter what job you take, there will likely be inconveniences. You have to deal with them, or go on friggin' welfare. She's probably crying because she doesn't have time to party with her friends. I don't know what she'll do if she ever actually has to be responsible for anyone other than herself.

In the early 80’s most college grads NEVER GOT A JOB OFFER. This is an ungrateful POS.

The wirst part of it is that short of a lightning-bolt-on-the-road-to-Damascus moment, she’ll blame everyone but herself for her misery.

She should be happy she works in the north and has a 9 to 5 job. I went to work in the south where jobs are 8 to 5. However, if you are ambitious and wish to get ahead, I quickly learned jobs are 7 am to 6 pm or later.

I remember as a new college grad beginning my first job at a company headquarters in the south. My first day at work, I left my cubicle to go home at 5:15. A manager in his late 30’s looked at me as I passed his door and asked, “Heading home?”. When I replied “Yes”, he said, “It’s your career.” A great first lesson.

If 60 is the new 40 then 35 must be the new 15.

My first “nine-to-five” job was easier than college, and paid a helluva lot more. I got in early and left late almost every day. One of the best experiences of my entire life.

What a princess!

"This type of “shock” happens to every kid getting their first job. What is different is we would bitch to our friends and family….and the rest of the world wouldn’t know or chime in. Tik Toc is going to be the end of these kids.."

Good post. She's young, and I wish her well. Unfortunately, she put this video online. Now, it went viral, and everyone is criticizing her.

However, if she's returning home by 6:15, her commute isn't bad at all. Many other people have a much longer commute.

And, if she works 9-5 Mon-Fri with weekends off, then she has plenty of time to socialize. (Many other people work weekends and/or night shift.)

But, I do feel bad for her because she put that emotional moment online. Note to young people: Your social media "friends" aren't your friends, and that "community" isn't a community at all.

But, in the video, she says she arrives home by 6:15 at the earliest. Most people don’t work 9-5. They work 8.5 hours or longer per day. Their schedule would be 9:00-5:30 or 8:30-5:00 with a half hour lunch break. Returning home by 6:15 isn’t bad at all. If she has weekends off, she has a nice schedule.

To be clear, I’m not criticizing this young woman. I’m only talking about her work schedule.
