Deion Sanders delivers hard truth about American society
The Comeback ^ | Sep 18, 2023 | DJ Byrnes

Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders is one of the hottest coaches in football at the moment. The Buffaloes are currently 3-0 and ranked No. 19 in the Associated Press poll with a huge game at Oregon coming this weekend.

But it wasn’t always clear that Sanders was headed for success in Boulder. He took plenty of criticism from posting his first meeting with his team. In no uncertain terms, he told the team that he was bringing his “Louis Vitton luggage” with him from Jackson and any player that didn’t like it should hit the portal.

Over 40 players took up Sanders on that offer. But so far, Sanders’ tough love has paid dividends for a program that won one game in the season prior to his arrival.

Sanders didn’t apologize for his method of operation in a recent interview with 60 Minutes.

“I think truth is good for the kids. We’re so busy lying we don’t even recognize the truth no more in society. We want everybody to feel good. That’s not the way life is,” he said, according to Fox News. “Now, it is my job to make sure I have what we need to win. That makes a lot of people feel good – winning does.”

Sanders said anyone who let words run them off wasn’t fit for his program anyway.

“If you went for that, if you were able to let words run you off, you ain’t for us because we’re an old-school staff. We coach hard. We coach tough. We’re disciplined. If you’re allowing verbiage to run you off because you don’t feel secure with your ability – you ain’t for us,” he said.

So far, it’s hard to argue with the results.

Winner winner chicken dinner. Prime brought kids with him who have been playing for him since elementary school. Travis Hunter being one of them.

Means he plans to bring in his own players through the transfer process for those already in college and recruiting.

Did you watch the game? His offense was hopeless, his defense was getting schwacked, one of his best players got put out on a cheap shot, double OT and what was he doing on the sidelines? Yelling? Screaming? Throwing a fit? Cussing coaches? Nope. He paced the sidelines, spoke calmly into his headset and coached up his team.

Prime won’t give you the pleasure of seeing him loose control.

Moments after this incident, Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders got furious and lost his cool. Sanders spoke about the fight and stated, “If one fight, we all fight— you understand that? I don’t want to see y’all walking off when somebody’s fighting! NEVER AGAIN!”

Honestly?
Maybe in the top 30, if they’re lucky.

I couldn’t agree more - football (sandlot, high school, junior college), and the Army basic training added to the mix. Then the Lord blessed me with a sweet little wife and a house full of daughters.

When I coached I would always start the parents’ meeting with, “It doesn’t matter if we win or lose as long as we have fun. It’s just winning is a lot more fun than losing.”

Those Starbuck housewives heads would explode.

That’s pretty good. My husband also coached kids for many years, so I’m very familiar with the moms you’re talking about. Some of the dads were pretty awful, too.

Love it. How’d you hear that? Was there mic near him when he said that, or was it after the game? I must’ve gone to the john because I missed it.

What’s not to like? Billy is MARVELOUS playing Fernando, it’s a great recurring character from the era when SNL was at least somewhat funny.

I loved it when he flew into an Atlanta Braves baseball game many years ago in his chartered helicopter. If I recall he just finished a football game or practice. He was an incredible athlete.

I worked in intel from the late 80’s to 2018. A DIA employee of the year was a guy wearing a dress that made a deployment to Bagram, Afghanistan. Yeah....that was the whole of his achievement.

That was when I made my decision to leave.

I think you missed the context of my comment. It was in response to another post, it was a joke, and should not be read as a slam on Sanders.

Another made a comment comparing him to Lewis Hamilton; who complains all the time when he loses. I was suggesting that any comparison would have to wait until Sanders lost. Because he hasn’t.

I hope that puts my comment in a different light.

“Deion Sanders delivers hard truth about American society” - What? That sports is just a game and not important in the scheme of things?
