Germany is a really weird edge case. Everybody has a different name for Germany. And vastly different in many cases. It’s Allemagne to the French. Tyskland in Norway. Really quite odd.

When the sun never sets on your empire you get to call things what you want I guess. But when the sun start setting, things change.

No doubt.

"Everybody has a different name for Germany."
Probably because it wasn't even a country until recently, but the people were still similar enough and politically unified enough that everyone had to call them something.
To: Boogieman
They probably all translate to “the people that use too many consonants.”

I don't think he is hateful ... Modi's rhetoric and that of his party are responsible for inciting Hindus resulting in murder and violence toward Indian Christians! Yes, Modi, his party and those they incite are virulent, hateful anti-Christians.

I don’t see the connection to Modi’s rhetoric. This is like saying Trump’s rhetoric incites violence in the US (any mass shooting that was blamed on Trump) or that Trump incited the Jan 6th “insurrection”.

The name India comes from the Indus River and was used already by the ancient Greeks and Romans...long before the British ever got to India.

Bharatians...sounds like they’re stealing from Game of Thrones.

Well they are going to have to get rid of the English language, too.

I prefer the original Welsh names for places in Wales. They are descriptive. Abertawe--> aber(mouth of river) tawe(Towy river) vs Swansea. Caerdydd--> caer(fort) dydd(day) vs Cardiff. My family lived in Ysbty Ystwyth--> Ysbyty(hospital) ystwyth (winding river). Some of the family came from Aberystwyth--> aber(mouth of river) ystwyth(winding river). You find a town with Aber(....) on the coast where a river terminates at the ocean. Pontrhydygroes-->pont(bridge over a river) croes(cross) a bridge at a crossroad that fords the river.
The Scots have a similar place descriptive scheme, but expressed in Gaelic vs Welsh.
