Electoral Politics is a competitive game. Being altruistic and wise does not always attract votes or cash contributions. One grabs an opportunity to get your name attached to something that deeply appeals to your base.
On other hand, an opponent like Chris Christie might not have much luck using this event as a way of raising funds.
What happens to Trump now has nothing to do with Christie at all. Most consider Christie as part of the past, circa 2016.

I’m not in any way committed to Desantis or even leaning toward him, but, hello, why exactly is this controversial or out of bounds? Desantis is running for president. He says, “Look, this Trump indictment is example of the DOJ needs to be cleaned up, and my administration will do that.” That seems to me to be legitimate argument... and, frankly, far better than bullcrap about how Andy Cuomo handled Covid better than RDS.
He is a former Federal prosecutor himself, and for many of us this means he has a lower public standing than a child molester and should be disqualified from ever holding public office.
