Donald Trump: ‘I don’t know why anyone needs an AR-15’
Emily Posts News ^ | 03/27/2023 | Emily Miller

Posted on 03/27/2023 5:43:45 PM PDT by Drew68

UPDATE: I did not know about the Nashville school shooting until after I sent out this story. I did not intend to make a political statement of any kind about the victims from the Covenant School. I pray for the families and the school.

As president, Donald Trump privately pushed for banning AR-15-type rifles, according to a new report. Trump was — and is — a big defender of Second Amendment rights. So the new revelation is surprising that he tried to renew the “assault weapon” ban during his first two years in office.

The news about Trump is buried in a lengthy story in The Washington Post on Monday about AR-15 style rifles. The report says he tried multiple times in 2018 and 2019 to get support for a federal “assault-weapon” ban.

The AR-15 is a style of rifle. The FBI crime statistics for 2021 show there were 11,628 people killed by guns, and 447 of them were by rifles of any type. The bureau does not track the style of the rifle.

A spokesman for Trump, who is running for reelection in 2024, did not deny the remarks. From The Post:

Trump’s bipartisan gun control

While this reporting from The Post is from anonymous sources, it lines up with Trump’s public comment in 2018 in a bipartisan White House meeting on gun control measures after the horrific school mass shooting in Parkland, FL.

Trump told Sen. Dianne Feinstein in a live TV meeting that he would look at her “assault weapon” ban bill. It caused an uproar with the pro-gun groups that helped get him elected. I cued up this video to watch him tell her:

NRA protest

The Post reported this meeting and one other in more detail:

Trump supported the NRA in the same 2018 meeting with Feinstein and others (transcript here):

The not agreeing on everything is a reference to the issue of raising the federal minimum age for owning a gun from 18 to 21 years old.

Nonsense, absolute nonsense. Even IF Trump listened to the worthless NRA, so what?

After the Florida school shooting...he had one of his public meetings with democrats...he was actually discussing gun confiscation. I thought Diane Feinstein, sitting next to him, was gonna have an orgasm....next day, they had to walk it all back. Did the same with immigration didnt understand when he said “comprehensive reform” means amnisty..had to walk it all back the next day....

Plus, the method he used to ban bumpstocks was extremely dangerous. To direct the ATF to ignore the clear words of the law, that a full auto fires repeatedly with ONE TRIGGER PULL, and order them to make up something (that many trigger pulls were actually one trigger pull) showed an ignorance (or contempt?) of the Constitution and how we make law.

Furthermore, when this transpired, I observed that this sort of precedent could pose horrible problems for gun owners. Luckily, leftist administrations have not yet taken advantage of this precedent. It is an EXTREMELY DANGEROUS PRECEDENT.

We already know what a Trump administration will look like when it comes to 2nd amendment issues. A few missteps, but by and large, he’s been a solid defender of the 2nd amendment.

Trump is not a gun friendly person. PERIOD. Stop handwaiving and denying it!

He’s talked and acted as bad as any Demmocrat on this issue. It’s why I’ll vote for him in the general against Newsom or Biden, but sure as hell not in a primary!!!

“His reflexes were a New York liberal on guns. He doesn’t have knee-jerk conservative reflexes.”

I love Trump, but I have to agree with this when PDJT came into office. He had a learning curve, but it seems he has made a definite right turn.

And a bump stock isn't a gun. it's something added to a gun.

And if you built your own AR-15, as many hobbyists do, and equipped it with a bumpstock, you were on the hook to convert it yourself out of pocket to comply with Trump's executive order.

I didn't vote for a bumpstock ban? Did you?

And Obama sure as hell never signed one.

“New Yorkers hate guns.”

And the Irish are drunks, Jews are cheap shiesters, blacks are lazy, Asians are brilliant overachievers, etc. I was born and raised in NY. I can assure you that the 2nd Amendmend is very alive and respected outside the urban cesspools.

Please note that the Fifth Circuit has jurisdiction in some, if not all, of the district courts in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. The bump stock ban is no longer in effect in those affected jurisdictions.

Please consult with your lawyer for confirmation and more info.

“The reason we were able to defeat the British is because we had equal firepower.”

Actually, we had superior firepower when it came to long guns.
Our Kentucky long rifle was far superior to the British smoothbore “Brown Bess.”

I don’t know why anyone needs an AR-15 either. I’d be perfectly happy with banning them. (Wait for it.)

Stoner’s take on a semi-sorta direct impingement system suuuuuuuuuucks. As long as we can have all the non-direct-impingement guns we want unaffected, like the FAL, AK, Garand system rifles, AR-18, etc., I couldn’t care less about the AR-15.

Can you tell I hate cleaning the AR-15? :P

I hear you...I was a Cruz guy in 2015, chiefly because I worked in NYC for years and Trump was a Guliani-like anti-gun, pro-abortion limousine conservative.

Trump has come a LONG way. He demonstrated his credentials.

As such, allow me to present reasons to disagree with you.

The news about Trump is buried in a lengthy story in The Washington Post (emphasis added)

Trump told aides that he wanted to ban AR-15s, according to people present for the statements.(emphasis added)

As one former official put it in describing the real estate developer turned politician, “His reflexes were a New York liberal on guns. He doesn’t have knee-jerk conservative reflexes.”

But Trump was also petrified of the NRA and others taking him on, former advisers said, and heard from a number of advisers that it would be unpopular.

. “F--- it, I’m not going to work with them on anything. They’re f---ing impeaching me,” Trump said in one Oval Office meeting, according to a participant."

Are we REALLY gonna believe the Compost, citing unnamed "former advisors" et al?

Sliming Trump as a fake pro-gun candidate is perhaps the first chapter in the "How to Stop Trump in 2024" statist playbook.

My vote?

The Washington Post, give me a break. It doesn’t even rise to the level of the National Enquirer.

Emily Post News and the WP confirm your suspicions?!? Are you kidding me? Where’s the Trump video? Where’s the Trump policy statement? Have you EVER heard Trump actually say anything remotely close to this? How many times did Trump try to ban them as president? Oh, forget what Trump actually says, we have unidentified “sources” and Emily and the WP to corroborate. We all better run and jump on the RdS bandwagon. Thank goodness Emily and the WP gave us the heads up before we elected Trump, the gun grabber, again. Yeah, right.
