“For example, occasionally Ham Radio Clubs and Operators float a balloon with tracking device in order to see how long they can track it.”
That’s true but is there an active chapter in Prudhoe Bay that I don’t know about? (Referencing Deadhorse object and Yukon? One).

Yes but balloon launches may or may not. I’m ignorant of it all. I still think 20 large Mylar balloons with foil hanging would be funny but probably illegal.

The higher ups you cite was a hungover P40 pilot who was handed the assgt while he was at an offices’ dance. He knew little if anything about radar and assumed the sighting was the B17s that everyone knew were coming in from Cali that morning.

I’ll be impressed when Brock Lesnar steps out of an octagon-shaped UFO.

It’s the “it can’t happen here” syndrome...like we have now.

NORAD is carefully tracking...

Why is it so hard to get a picture of the darn thing?
Is Bigfoot involved?
He seems to be an expert at evading high resolution imagery.

Why are we shooting these things down with expensive missiles? Shoot the balloon full of holes, a bunch of holes. The balloon then would act as a drogue chute and slow down the impact and less damage would occur to the spy package and analysis of such would be easier. The shoot downs so far seem to have detached the spy package and it plunged to earth at great speed and must have had great damage from the missile and impact.
Actually a Mach-2 close fly past would probably rupture the balloon envelope due to over pressure from the supersonic pressure. The engineers at Boeing can tell you exactly how much over-pressure it would achieve and if it would rupture the balloon envelope. If it did not, shoot it full of bullets and if this did not work (it will) shoot the expensive missile. One could even put a wing tip into the balloon. The aircraft would not even feel it. The balloon is just a thin film. It would be like hitting Saran Wrap and it would fracture due to the speed of the aircraft. Cheaper is better.

Maybe this woman misspoke. Maybe she meant to say it was an octopus balloon.

LOL. I’m pretty sure the air force pilots won’t be using navy terminology...

Doesn’t have to be near where it was shot down some of these balloons have circled the globe at over 80,000 ft, meaning they could have been launched thousands of miles away from where it was shot down
