title:The absurdity of California's reparations proposal
The Unherd ^ | 6 Dec 2022 | Joel Kotkin

Posted on 12/06/2022 7:01:42 AM PST by Rummyfan

You can always count on California’s progressive contingent to mix lunacy with hypocrisy. The state’s nine-member Reparations Task Force last month recommended large state payments to descendants of slaves, now living in California.

The task force estimates compensation of around $569 billion, with $223,200 per person: estimates of a national reparations total could top $14 trillion. California, which was never a slave state, although there were some instances during the Gold Rush, is a strange place to start. Given few Californians were enslaved, the expansive policy is justified by the legacy of discrimination that followed Emancipation.

This approach ignores the reality of California’s racial history. Rather than focusing on black people, who were never that numerous, the state’s racist passion was trained primarily on indigenous Americans, Mexican and Asians. Early Spanish Franciscans compared native Californians to “a species of monkey” and stripped them of their culture and traditions, forcing them to the Missions.

This was followed by expropriations and discrimination against Mexicans which led to open rebellion in the 1870s and then expulsions in the 1920s. Asian immigrants brought into work in the area were particularly badly treated, subject to racially based discrimination and bloody pogroms in both San Francisco and Los Angeles. In contrast, many black Americans considered California, for all its residual racism, a kind of promised land, certainly far better than the South. As Ralph Bunche noted, African-Americans in California were living, comparatively, “to partake in the freedom and grandeur of the Southland.”

Just another slush fund for the Democrats. Most blacks vote Democrats and donate to Democrats so this proposal fits right into their need to keep blacks in their pockets.

I would establish residency in Ca to collect 250k. Even though I’m white, I’m sure I have a drop of African DNA. Hannibal and his boys spent a lot of time in Italy.

Even 14 trillion won’t be enouhg. There will never be enough according to,the gimmedat society in the states.

They will bicker and fight amongst th3mselves about who is “entitled” to the money, and when the money runs out, they will bicker and co plain agaisnt the state claiming, that what they paid out was just a “drop in the bucket compared to what black folks are owed”

As proof, black folks, have already been handed reparations via “no arrests for thefts under $1000”, no arrests for flash mobs cleaning out stores “because they are just helping themselves to.whzt they are owed” according g to the mental left. And now, none of that was enough, now they demand trillions more

Their demands will never stop. Newsome is creating a mo ster that will devour his state!

Every single time there is a big money giveaway huge amounts go unaccounted for. That's why Dems love this commie scheme; they own all the rabbit holes the $$ will go into. And who can prove they are descended from slaves but not slave holders? And why should people who never held slaves or in any way benefitted from slavery be defrauded? It's a lot like the student loan bailout of making taxpayers foot the bill they do not owe.

With total expropriation of the “rich” coming up quickly, productive residents of Starnesville should engage in a second Gold Rush: liquidate all fixed property and rush for the exits.

Cue that guy from Catrina, complaining about the too small amount of free cash he got.

They will NEVER be satisfied!

Giving reparations of ANY kind or amount will make things WORSE.

Talk about starting another civil war ....

The only way to collect is via a bank in Nigeria, after which their passport is pulled never allowed to return here!

Yes I agree that whatever amount is paid out someone will complain it isn’t enough.

This 200k amount is supposedly to make up for housing discrimination in California. It’s very predictable that someone will say, well , $200,000 is nowhere near enough to buy a house in California.

If we go down this road of reparations for slavery this will never end. Not only will the dollar amounts spent be said to be inadequate, but every other grievance group who has some historic mistreatments in the past will what reparations for their group. Many other minority groups can claim historic discrimination , not just black people. Homosexuals can complain about historic discrimination against their group.

Just about everyone except Christian white heterosexual men, would claim that they need reparations to make up for historic wrongs done to them.

If we go down this road , then realistically, the Liberals will eventually want reparations for everyone who is a member of any group that ever suffered any historic slights or discrimination.

The proposal is the first step to get the Government to supply reparations.
State goes bankrupt after doing this, the feds step in and bail California out as being to big to fail.
Rinse and repeat, after all the Government is paying reparations, it’s just helping out individual states that need it.

"title:The absurdity of California's reparations proposal"

As a side note to this thread, please consider the following.

The main reason that California is a laughingstock (imo) is because the very corrupt, post-17th Amendment ratification federal government is not doing its constitutionally enumerated duty to guarantee each state a republican form of government.

"Article IV, Section 4: The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government [emphasis added], and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence."

Federal government negligence regarding California and other states is evidenced by unresolved allegations of ballot box tampering with the last two elections imo.

Woman Reports Finding Election Ballots in Ravine in the Santa Cruz Mountains (11.11.22)

In fact, the California ballots found in a ravine ought to trigger (imo) the "in any way abridged" penalty of Section 2 of the 14th Amendment for a state to lose seats in the House of Representatives.

"14th Amendment, Section 2: Representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State, excluding Indians not taxed. But when the right to vote at any election for the choice of electors for President and Vice President of the United States, Representatives in Congress, the Executive and Judicial officers of a State, or the members of the Legislature thereof, is denied to any of the male inhabitants of such State, being twenty-one years of age, and citizens of the United States, or in any way abridged, except for participation in rebellion, or other crime, the basis of representation therein shall be reduced in the proportion which the number of such male citizens shall bear to the whole number of male citizens twenty-one years of age in such State." [Section 2: Apportionment of Representatives]

Regarding Section 2, consider that the post-Civil War congressional Republicans who drafted that section made it to discourage southern Democrats (my word) from rigging the ballot boxes that Democrats are now alleged to have done for 2020, and now 2022 elections!

Section 2: Apportionment of Representatives

Again, the very corrupt, Democratic-pirated feds are not doing their job to guarantee each state a republican form of government imo.

California?

President Trump himself tried to pass a $500 billion reparations package during his last year in office.

Remember Trump's Platinum Plan?

Gavin Newsom is stealing President Trump's ideas and not even giving him credit for it. Typical Democrat.

This is gonna be a slush fund like the BulletTrain scam.

For a state that never permitted slaves to take money from those who never owned slaves (i.e., the ancestors of every Democrat own slaves but dead now) and give said money to folks who never were slaves.
That is how CaCaLand rolls.

“I would establish residency in Ca to collect 250k. Even though I’m white, I’m sure I have a drop of African DNA. Hannibal and his boys spent a lot of time in Italy.”

There are a lot of people in California like my offspring and me. I have lived in California for over 80 years or their lifespans.

Depending on the DNA tests, my African DNA runs between 3-6%.

It is amazing how low of a % of African DNA, they can identify.

Yet, our so called Native American ancestors DNA for some weird reasons, never shows up. In spite of a ton of normal genealogy markers like: births, weddings, military, property ownership, taxes and deaths.

Glancing at his plan it involves the recipients actually working though doesn’t it?

Something many modern Dems don’t enthusiastically do.
