Vanity: Something's been bothering me about the photo of those "classified" documents.

Posted on 09/06/2022 12:16:25 PM PDT by Parity

As the title suggests, something's been bothering me about the photo of "classified documents" released by the DOJ in their response filing for the special master request by Trump's legal team.

The cover sheets are all wrong.

I've had access to Top Secret/SCI material for over 40 years, working with it on a daily basis. I have never seen cover sheets with a solid color border that say "SECRET/SCI" or "TOP SECRET/SCI." Those would be OK if they were just SECRET or TOP SECRET collateral information (not sensitive compartmented information - SCI). The cover sheets for SCI documents have striped borders in the respective colors, and have the compartment listed on the cover sheet - not just "SCI."

The reason for this distinction is that the two categories need to be clearly distinguishable. Those look like regular (collateral) classified coversheets. If the "SECRET/SCI" cover sheets shown in the photo actually were used, they could easily be inadvertently mixed with the collateral coversheets, because they look so much alike.

SCI cover sheets need to be readily identifiable, so they are handled in their appropriate compartment, and not intermingled with collateral classified information.

Those look like standard coversheets with the "SCI" moniker added by someone who doesn't know the difference, or the importance of the difference - either on NARA's side, the DOJ/FBI side, or the TRUMP side.

Someone help me out on this - I could be wrong, but I'm losing sleep, and just don't get it. Nothing else in the photo indicates classification, so the photo is not probative, and certainly not prejudicial as I see it.

Why do we have so much secret stuff anyway?

They told us in the USAF it was to keep it away from Congress.

I decided I should give you a real answer.

It is to keep our Citizens from being killed in a plethora of ways.   You should be able to work it out from there.

I didnt handle them as long as OP but, despite some stupid claims Ive seen made about clips vs staples, the answer was neither.

Ive had some similar thoughts and a couple of others. I didnt hold a clearance other than military and that was a long time ago so I dont know what may have changed since or for those outside of DoD. I do know that none of it makes a difference if everything was declassified upon being transported to his office as he states was the standing order.

I could make a purple polka dot SUPER DUPER DOUBLE TOP SECRET CODEWORD CHEESEBURGER coversheet and sneak over and put it in your mailbox. That wouldnt make your mail classified, that would just give your unclassified mail some ugly cover art.

I know, I can hear you, “The point is its fake!” It is but the liberals arent going believe it, the squishy middles are never going to read this, and conservatives already know its bullshit because there is no such thing as special compartmented reclassified unclassified.

If they were honest they couldnt get him for imaginary things, since they are dishonest they will do whatever they can get away with regardless of the truth.

...and FWIW, although I didnt handle it as long as OP, except for a Navy Freeper wandering around here that I know of, I may well have handled and processed more than the total of the rest of the board combined because of my assigned role (”specialty”/”career code”).

The cover sheets aren’t permanently attached. I’ve seen staples and paper clips used, I’ve seen them used in casually bound booklets, I’ve seen them slapped and held on documents to move them from place to place in a facility. The full markings are on the documents themselves. The cover sheets are just to alert you to the contents. They are all unclassified when not with the documents. I could easily stage the same scene in my grandkids’ rooms, with coversheets, drawings, and toys all around. It doesn’t prove anything.

Illegal fishing expedition, once you realize that, everything starts to make sense.

On August 8, 2022, pursuant to the search warrant, the Government executed anunannounced search of Plaintiff’s residence. As reflected in the “Detailed Property Inventory”submitted by the Government in this action, agents seized approximately 11,000 documents and1,800 other items from the office and storage room [ECF No. 39-1].3 The seized property isgenerally categorized on the inventory as twenty-seven boxes containing documents, with andwithout classification markings, along with photographs, other documents, and miscellaneousmaterial [ECF No. 1 pp. 24–26].4

4 Based on the Detailed Property Inventory, of the approximately 11,000 documents seized, roughly 100 contain classification markings [ECF No. 39-1 pp. 2–8]

Hi.

Long time ago, in a country far far away, there were these Honest John missiles.

For some reason I got stuck in the control room for those missiles. For 13 months. It sucked.

Anyway, every 30 days the launch codes would change. Come in by Comsat.

President Trump didn’t doesn’t have the launch codes.

Fwiw.

I didn’t have your length of experience with TS/SCI but I had the same thoughts about the cover sheets. They just don’t look correct. I remember some with special border around them, NOT a solid color.

All of this mess is greatly distressing to the military, civilians, and contractors who deal with this stuff daily, and take great care to do it properly.

Or who have in the past.   Hillary's shenanigans still makes me seethe inside knowing the grave significance of her offenses.

The question is what place did you work?

I worked in 2 different contractors and this doesn’t seem abnormal to me. But they set up sheets their own way, so it may vary depending on where you work.

20 years active duty military, 20 years as a government civilian. Now working as a contract troubleshooter until I feel like really retiring.

Contractors on DOD tasks handling national security info don’t make up cover sheets. If it’s for proprietary corporate stuff, they can do whatever they want.

But that’s not what Trump is being investigated for.

That’s not what I remember.

I’ve worked for 2 totally separate contractors, NOT government agencies, though it’s been close to 15 years since. They make up what cover sheet they want as long as it has the right color and “markings” (words).

The wording is standard as are colors, but the layout of the sheet, the fonts, etc, are not the exact same. We did not have this white central area; everything was solid color with white marking.

It would be helpful to know who “they” are and where “they” are working...

How do you “have” an SCI?

You have a certain level of clearance, which may be modified by such as SCI (I had RD mod). And I think that’s only by the contractor’s judgement.
