China’s Pursuit Of Food Security Comes As Crop Conditions Set To Be “Worst In History”

In September 2020, Michael Every of Rabobank floated the question: What possible disruption is coming that requires China to start massive stockpiling of all possible commodities?

It was no secret by 2021, China panic hoarded half of the world’s maize and other grains resulting in increased food inflation.

China’s buying spree of all commodities left many market observers puzzled by Beijing’s stockpiling motives. Now we understand the second-largest economy in the world was forecasting a global catastrophe of widespread famine due to disrupted food supply chains.

Global food supplies were already tight on a post-COVID basis due to snarled supply chains and adverse weather conditions in key growing areas worldwide. The Ukraine invasion by Russia was a shock. It fractured global food supply chains and sent food prices to record highs with the very risk shortages will materialize in emerging market economies dependent on the eastern European country.

Ukraine is one of the world’s largest agricultural exporters of corn and wheat. Before the invasion, Ukraine was the second-largest supplier of grains for the European Union and one of the largest suppliers for emerging markets in Asia and Africa. Breaking down the numbers, Ukraine produced 49.6% of global sunflower oil, 10% of global wheat, 12.6% of global barley, and 15.3% of global maize. This year harvest will be severely reduced because of war.

Last week, the United Nations (UN) World Food Programme (WFP) warned that disruptions in Ukraine “risk imminent famine and starvation in more places around the world.”

So it’s apparent President Xi Jinping made the right decision in prioritizing food stockpiling ahead of the global food supply chains fracturing. However, Xi has an emerging food production problem.

Bloomberg cites Tang Renjian, China’s agriculture minister, who warned that last year’s record-breaking floods had sparked “big difficulties” with food production.

“China faces big difficulties in food production because of the unusual floods last autumn.

“Many faming experts and technicians told us that crop conditions this year could be the worst in history,” he said.

Next, food protectionism may flourish in agricultural-centric countries that want to first satisfy domestic supplies before exporting. This is already beginning and may increase food prices and induce shortages.

We’ve had Pestilence and Famine; working on War. 3/4 Horsemen accounted for. Not looking forward to #4.

Thanks to the green lunatic assault on the fossil fuel industry, natural gas, the core ingredient of fertilizer, is scarce and expensive. Farmers around the world simply cannot get or afford fertilizer. Crop yields will be down and there will be hunger, starvation and even famine. Thank Biden and his lunatic greens for the coming hunger wars.

Famine and war, of significance, still approaching. Perhaps the real pestilence as well.

But the pace of things seems to be quickening.

We have indeed screwed up global supply chains for most things, but these anonymous “experts” saying “crop conditions this year could be the worst in history,” for China is just a lot of hype.

“We have indeed screwed up global supply chains for most things”

Could be that global supply chains are inherently screw ups because they are the foundation of interdependency leading to instability.

The burden of proof is on people declaring unprecedented, historical occurrences.

I do know - if there is one thing that China’s communist party focuses on - its food security. They have steadily increased grain and agriculture yields over the last 4 decades. That they would allow it to suddenly fall of a cliff for man-made reasons this summer would be very hard to believe.

Yup, we’ll be doing lots of canning this year and gardening is starting to catch on in the neighborhood.

Gee, isn’t it funny that the world is going along just zwimmingly for decades after decades after decades, and then all of a sudden we have a 2 year pandemic, then right during the pandemic, a war breaks out and its gonna cause food shortages world wide... we go right from one “critical” condition to another. Almost as though it were all planned. Beynits gonna result,in mich higher prices for food, which will Condition folks to eagerly accept avidly “discounts” that the government will deign to give folks to “help offset the ‘unavoidable’ rise in food prices.

Later, one will have to bow and take a mark,in order to get the discounts just Tobe able to eat and keep from freezing to death because fuel prices are far too high to afford for all but the elites

You can keep complaining about biden but it’s global. All Western countries are doing the same things, just like they did with covid measures. They get their ideas or orders from all those G7/8 summits and Davos events.

It’s not biden or even obama. National leaders are simply enacting things that some globalists come up with.

[[I do know - if there is one thing that China’s communist party focuses on - its food security]]

A Chinese woman was recalling how when she was young, her gov thought she was a male child by mistake, and gave the family an extra bag of rice per month because male children got more than female children. Years later her loving gov found out sbout it, and cut the whole family’s monthly rice allotment by a significant amount to “make up for the losses due to cheating”

That is our future with democrats at the helm! This whole ‘worldwide food shortage due to,fertilizer, issues with Russia’ is suspect. Are they the only place that has massive fertilizer stores?

Thanks for that.

So anybody who is against drilling and fracking our own oil and gas is not only a stooge ofPutin but they also want mass starvation……especially of the children. Won’t someone think of the children?

How ya like that Gaia Worshippers? :-)

Maybe Bill Gates et al buying up all that farmland makes a bit more sense now.

It does sometime feel we little people have been left out of the loop.

Not just the left either

More quotes from Bush. I haven’t investigated whether he said them or not, as many times memes will be false, but it appears he did say them, but jusy keep in mind he may not have too- .

“Ultimately, our objective is to welcome the Soviet Union back into the world order.
Perhaps the world order of the future will truly be a family of nations.”
—President George H.W. Bush, Texas A&M University 1989

“The Persian Gulf crisis is a rare opportunity to forge new bonds with old enemies (the Soviet Union)...Out of these troubled times a New World Order can emerge under a United Nations that performs as envisioned by its founders.”
—President George Bush, September 11, 1990

“We have before us the opportunity to forge for ourselves and for future generations a new world order, a world where the rule of law, not the rule of the jungle, governs the conduct of nations. When we are successful, and we will be, we have a real chance at this new world order, an order in which a credible United Nations can use its peacekeeping role to fulfill the promise and vision of the U.N.’s founders.”
—President George H.W. Bush 1991

“If we do not follow the dictates of our inner moral compass and stand up for human life, then his lawlessness will threaten the peace and democracy of the emerging new world order we now see, this long dreamed-of vision we’ve all worked toward for so long.”
— President George H.W. Bush, January 1991

“For two centuries we’ve done the hard work of freedom. And tonight we lead the world in facing down a threat to decency and humanity. What is at stake is more than one small country, it is a big idea - a new world order, where diverse nations are drawn together in common cause to achieve the universal aspirations of mankind: peace and security, freedom, and the rule of law. Such is a world worthy of our struggle, and worthy of our children’s future.”
—President George H.W. Bush State of the Union Address 1991

“We will succeed in the Gulf. And when we do, the world community will have sent an enduring warning to any dictator or despot, present or future, who contemplates outlaw aggression. The world can therefore seize this opportunity to fufill the long-held promise of a new world order - where brutality will go unrewarded, and aggression will meet collective resistance.”
—President George H.W. Bush State of the Union Address 1991

No. The demented, corrupt Biden and his cabal have taken overt measures to dismantle the fossil fuel industry. The loss of wealth generated by fossil fuels, the inevitable shortages and high expense of fertilizer made from natural gas, is leading to food shortages and overt famine. Blame the Biden green lunatic policies that are causing this catastrophe. America in all prior difficulties regardless of their nature, was always the breadbasket of the world. The Biden green lunacy has ended that safeguard against famine.
