From the article....This is actually the Queen Elizabeth's wishes. Queen Consort is the appropriate title since she would be the wife of the King.

The idea of royalty in this day and age is an insult.They've always had royalty. The problem is when a country w/o royals, like ours, starts treating elected officials as royalty and not public servants.

Henry the VIII upended the whole country based on religion and the desire to marry someone he later beheaded.
His daughter killed a lot of people trying to switch it the other way.
Charles bends over backwards to accept a diverse concept of religion. Maybe that is a good thing.
But he is too woke for me.

There was a reason for that - he is trying to convince people HE is assimilating to the US and with MM there, the attn would have been focused on her and him instead of him looking like he REALLY wanted to be there.

I have no use for the monarchy and titles of nobility. But it’s Britain. It’s losing its identity and needs something to hang on to that recalls its past greatness that is now gone but they don’t know it.

I didn’t say it wasn’t his right... it’s his age. Also there is the thorny issue of a known unrepentant adulterer being head of the Church of England. There was a time when Parliament would have disallowed the succession on that fact alone.
