Every time some scumbag corrupt politician gets laid out in state upon their death it makes me simultaneously angry that such a high honor is bestowed upon those least worthy and saddened that you republic is becoming lost as the pols establish themselves as a new aristocracy that uses their office primarily to enrich themselves and to rig things so they can stay there forever.

His mastery of language is one thing yes, but without a brilliant imagination and understanding of human behavior, his writings (especially Narnia series) wouldn’t have been close to what they are.

Not at all. The throne provides a cultural coherence, a unity, to the British people. The Queen is much loved; she has done a great deal for charity. The British Royal Family is also a cash cow for the UK. Their presence, their houses, the sports and industries and activities they support, attract many tourists from all over the world, who leave their money in the UK in the hands of British people.
The UK, like the US and the West in general, is circling the drain. Any institution that preserves our cultural heritage and our civilization should be supported.

They may have made it appear that he renounced the throne for the woman he loved, but the real reason was that they were entranced with Hitler and the British establishment pushed them out.
