Arabs in other countries don’t seem to have accidents.................
Didn’t something almost identical to this happen a few months back at the Port of Beirut? There was great video of that as well.
An explosion in the Mideast?
This is news?
Yes, but the loss of life could have been much much worse.
Any is too much, but in spite of the rumors, it was the blame of the Palestinians. They knew the fertilizer was unstable and that it was badly packaged. Photo’s I saw looked like super size seed bags (there were elevators near them). And it had been stored in woven bags that let moisture in. The fertilizer draws moisture from the atmosphere and that warehouse was right on the water.
The bulk fertilizer was removed from a ship that was having problems.
Agree.
Don’t they have to mix it with some diesel or kerosene?
Tragic but true. It does not matter. They can blame the enemy either way and enough will believe it. Win - win.
The only people who lose are the ones who have little to no voice in the matter. FWIW - I really like Lebanese people. Always have and I have known quite a few and even trained with one in the Army for 6 months. The nation is stratified much like our nation is and it has many of the same problems.
If The Squad ran our country it would look a lot like Lebanon.
Was arec barwin seen in the vicinity?
Fertilizer can be very deadly.
There was a more recent incident in West, Texas, a few years back.
Looks like an “industrial accident” to me.
Actually, the general ineptness of the Third World makes this possibility extremely plausible.
No.
Ammonium Nitrate (AN) has explosives properties all by itself. It is a very strong oxidizer so if you mix it with any kind of fuel it forms a binary explosive but if it is impacted by fire or sufficient heat it can mass detonate - see West Texas or any of the numerous stories of freighters carrying AN (fertilizer) that exploded with devastating results.
This incident allegedly involves an ammunition storage site so it is unlikely to involve AN. There is still a lot of old Soviet era munitions from the 60’s and 70’s floating around the Middle East in poor condition and I have read that Hamas and Hezbollah (with Iranian assistance) have started making a lot of their own munitions so it is either ordnance in poor condition or more likely some form of human error.
Could it be Mossad? Maybe, but regardless Israel will be blamed and many will believe it. They put them in refugee camps or other civilian centers for a reason and that is usually because Israel will not strike them (bad publicity).
Hey Uber-Eng
That is some special virtue signal you got there, pardner.
How about this: “ All things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to his purpose.“?
IOW - your high road is not really high. I also doubt that it is a road.
I guess the hospitals and schools didn’t have any more room for munitions.
Many years ago, when I was living in NM, they simulated a nuclear blast detonating a huge pile of fertilizer. There was an explosive charge that detonated it.
The blast that happened in Lebanon several years back, first caught fire and a vortex developed and spun the hot gases to point of a plasma. Then it suddenly went BOOOMMM!
“Hakeem!! How many times am I to be telling you there is to be no smoking allowed in the missile silo!”
