Xi Jinping’s options
Let us go through his options in broad terms. First, Beijing would doubtless prefer to win without fighting, true to Chinese strategic traditions.[6] That is not because party magnates harbour scruples over using violence, or goodwill towards Taiwan. It is because aggressors love peace.[7] A bloodless triumph lets them get their way while sparing them the dangers, hardships, and costs of war.
But it is increasingly doubtful that Taiwan will capitulate without warfare. Polls reveal that an overpowering majority of islanders now define themselves not as Chinese but as Taiwanese.[8] As a corollary, they reject the legitimacy of the mainland’s claim to be their rightful sovereign.

Another reason why I think there's no way they attack. China is already having enough problems from trade disruption, such as their coal shortage. Destroying Taiwanese chip production would be economic suicide.
It is my understanding from reading Strategic and Military open sources that China does not have the sea [lift] capability to “invade” Taiwan.
***They have hundreds of thousands of cargo ships they can fill with civilians armed with cameras, CNN uplinks, and bullhorns. The resultant slaughter will be live on CNN and the PR backlash will be enough to let China walk right back into their own internal (never did declare independence) province.
If we blockade them, they’ll lob thermal-capable antiship ICBM missiles at our aircraft carriers and CNN will record them sinking to the bottom of the sea. America will luze stomach for the fight after luzing a couple $Trillion in carriers and tens of thousands of men in one afternoon, all seen on CNN, with our recourse being... to slaughter civilians.
China has all the cards, they just have to lay them down on the table at this point.
No way. If they were actually going to do it, they wouldn't be talking about it this much. They know they can't take Taiwan. All they can accomplish military is to devastate Taiwan, and only then at ruinous military, economic, and political cost. And if they miscalculate about Biden and the U.S. Navy does intervene, they're toast.
This is purely political. Xi is posturing to show strength at home and to intimidate Taiwan and embarrass the US in order to undermine any WestPac alliance against them.
You don’t need air superiority. What you need is airWAVE superiority. So when China sends in the first wave of 5 million civilians in a cargo-sampan navy internal migration and they get slaughtered live on CNN, the PR backlash will win China the war. Just like what happened in Vietnam.
The Taiwanese have untold numbers of anti-ship and anti-air missiles ready and waiting.
***And the Chinese have untold numbers of cargo ships ready to be filled with civilians to be slaughtered on CNN during their internal migration to a province that even America’s state department acknowledges is not independent.
Yup. And glory and status and hegemony and regional dominance.
with strongly hinted winks as punctuation marks ;->
Your point was about how it STARTED, not how it ENDED. The
Argentine generals couldn’t afford 40 million civilian casualties like the Chinese can.
Yup, those hundreds of thousands of civilian cargo ships are sure to get mowed down by all those defenses. All on CNN, of course. PR Nightmare.
I reached exactly that conclusion in my undergrad thesis 20 years ago. At time, even if the crossing and landing were unopposed, any invasion force they could deliver and sustain by sea would have been badly outnumbered, particularly if Taiwan had sufficient warning to mobilize its reserves. By comparison, U.S. forces invading Okinawa had more than a 2-1 numerical advantage over the poorly-supplied defenders, and it was still a bloody mess.
While their capability may have improved in the last 20 years, I doubt it has improved enough.
So you think the communists running China just do stuff for shirts and giggles?
OK.
All the more reason to not invade, but send in civilians for slaughter in a mass internal migration.
What are you talking about? Your point was simply shot down. Try to learn some reasoning skills.
That sounds like a great way for Xi to end up in a cell in Beijing waiting for Excedrin Headache No. 9.
Who you working for?
You have to be paid to be as dull as you are.
The question was asked of the same jerks who threw Billy Mitchell under the bus. He was PRO-America and very realistic about upcoming warfare. His opponents were... unrealistic at the very least, and easily painted as anti-America later on.
So who are you working for? If you can’t discuss realistic scenarios in upcoming warfare situations but have to resort to bullshiite ad hominem tactics, you are shown to be anti-American. Who YOU workin’ for, globalist?
One can hope for such outcomes.
But hope is not a strategy.
Yep.
You’re as dull as dishwater.
You can’t defend your views. Perhaps taking a critical thinking class would help, but I doubt it.
