If you have never gone to a Korean barbecue before you MUST check it out. One big reason is that the dining experience is completely different from a regular barbecue. Why? Well, for one thing you are the cook. Yes, you cook your own food at a Korean barbecue as you can see in this video. Also the cuts of meat and flavors are very different to say nothing of the side orders. Somehow I don't think you will have seaweed or kimchi at a regular barbecue restaurant.
If you have an Korean barbecue restaurants in your area, I highly recommend you check them out. We went to the Chow One Korean Barbecue in Pembroke Pines, FL and the food and service were excellent. In fact I can say I had one of the best steaks in my life. It can best be described as having an exquisite sort of sweet flavor that you might not think would work on steak but it does.
Oh, and one important note. Did you see the scissors in the video? Well, use it. It will make cooking and handling the food much easier. Unfortunately I overlooked that. I did cut the meat up into smaller pieces months ago when I was last there but somehow overlooked doing it this time.
My favorite cuisine; healthiest food around.
I did a year’s tour of Korea in 1969 while in the USAF. The butcher shops always had skinned chicken, pork, dog and cat hanging in the window with the attending flies. You never saw or heard animals. Those people led hard lives.
Thanks for the list! We love all kinds of foods, from local specialties to international food. We love Indian and Thai and German and Italian and Mexican and so on.
What you’ve given us is super helpful. I’m going to try Harvey’s Wineburger the next time I up there.
My houseboy took me to dinner in Suwon City in 1969. I didn’t know what I was eating (and didn’t want to know!) but most of it tasted real good. Makkoli (rice wine) kicked my butt real good but I made it back to the Base before succumbing.
Back in the 60's Mexican restaurants weren't common. There was a mom and pop place in Ogden that set me on the Mexican food path.
That's about right but if you get it thru GroupOn and wait for the bigger discounts, you can get it for MUCH LESS. I also recommend you check LocalFlavor.Com. It's all around the country and I've gotten a lot of great restaurant deals from that site. In fact, almost all of my outside dining has been from GroupOn and LocalFlavor.Com deals.
Back then many exotic restaurants weren't common. In the past 40 years there has been an explosion of foreign restaurants such as not only Mexican but also Korean, Japanese sushi, and specialty Latin restaurants. And I bet a lot of you still aren't familiar with the incredible Mariscos restaurants which are seafood restaurants based on primarily Peruvian (and some Colombian) cuisine.

The kimchee alone is worth the trip.
Did it piss on the grill?
I spent three years in Korea. I’ve not found anything remotely close to the full bore experience here in the states. Not saying there aren’t any, just none that I’ve found.
Been to too many to count. All were good and fresh (meat). But, they were all in Japan.
No way. I love dogs and cats alive and well.
