If you have never gone to a Korean barbecue before you MUST check it out. One big reason is that the dining experience is completely different from a regular barbecue. Why? Well, for one thing you are the cook. Yes, you cook your own food at a Korean barbecue as you can see in this video. Also the cuts of meat and flavors are very different to say nothing of the side orders. Somehow I don't think you will have seaweed or kimchi at a regular barbecue restaurant.
If you have an Korean barbecue restaurants in your area, I highly recommend you check them out. We went to the Chow One Korean Barbecue in Pembroke Pines, FL and the food and service were excellent. In fact I can say I had one of the best steaks in my life. It can best be described as having an exquisite sort of sweet flavor that you might not think would work on steak but it does.
Oh, and one important note. Did you see the scissors in the video? Well, use it. It will make cooking and handling the food much easier. Unfortunately I overlooked that. I did cut the meat up into smaller pieces months ago when I was last there but somehow overlooked doing it this time.
K-TOWN in LA is fantastic!!! It’s huge and fast growing. Highly recommended!
There was this great joint on 8th street in Korea town in LA, that was still using charcoal on the burners up till last year. The place was smokey, and dark, and had the best Kimchee in town, along with an amazing assortment of mystery meat. Delicious, and when you left, the smoke from the charcoal and the BBQ would stick to your clothes and hair for the rest of the day.
Sadly, they seem to have closed during the ‘Rona at some point, at least when I check the other day.
Q: What do they call a Korean that has more than one dog?
A: A Rancher
I’m sure it’s good. But if I’m going out to eat, I will NOT be doing the cooking. I would prefer folks who are experts at Korean cuisine to do the cooking.
Sorry. Just me.

Only the person who is not burdened with cooking the meals every night would ever think this is a good idea.
So that's where the Columbus, GA guy should go.
Haven’t had Korean BBQ, but back circa 1970 at Hickam AFB O-club they had regular Mongolian BBQ nights. Every kind of meat, vegetable, oil and sauce you could think of including goat. You made your choices and it was cooked to order for you on a convex griddle. So delicious.
When I was in Tokyo in 1987, we had mokushundo at this place~

Ladies in traditional kimonos cooked for you on the stone grills in the center of the tables. Many meats and vegetables including lotus root. Exquisite dining.
It's actually fun plus you can cook the meat exactly how you like it. Plus, it's not like that's all you do. While your food is cooking, you have lots of side orders to try.
The first time I had Korean barbecue was at a little restaurant in Suwon, near the Samsung factory. It was August, blazing hot and very humid. The grilled at the table had round, glowing red ceramic bricks, not a gas powered flame. Loved it from the first bite.
Hi.
Never been. There’s two in St. Pete. Will check it out.

If I’m going out to eat. I’m NOT cooking. If I wanted to cook, I’d stay at home. :D

Lots of fantastic ones on Buford Highway and in Duluth near Atlanta.
If you’re on Instagram...follow my brother-in-law’s page - ktownatl. He visits them all and photo documents the best stuff.
I’ll bet Junction City, Manhattan and Ogden KS have some killer Korean bbq.
Unfortunately, I missed it last time I was there.

My wife is a master of Korean Meat dishes! My boys can both make and serve Korean Bar-b-qe so well one of them became a butcher seven years ago.
I went to korea as a 23 year old soldier in 1980 thru 84. In 1986 I met my wife in a Korean restaurant of all places; she immigrated the old fashion 10-year wait for a visa way. She was actually disillusioned living in the USA and was talking with her family about returning when I asked the ladies she was with to take my driver’s license with my phone number on a yellow sticky - I told them she would have to call me and see to give it back. He older sister called me the next day and being a paratrooper didn’t help but working in the Corps Commanders Office as the SGS NCOIC was a good referral.
She followed me 18 more years around the world. I have had some of the best food in world served by my wife!
A Bulgogi house in Korea is way different than here in the states.
With the big Kia plant nearby in West Point GA, surely there’s one down that way that’s decent. And a lot closer to Columbus than ATL.
Here, this place has good reviews.

Back in 1977. Los Angeles.
Looks like an all you can eat place...about $30 a person before drinks...so it is good?
I have a new Korean friend who just told me I really need to try Korean BBQ...and now this thread....
maybe I should. :)
