Prayer Request For My Mother
Me, myself, and I ^ | 7/22/21 | Me

Posted on 07/22/2021 8:44:23 PM PDT by Viking2002

Please say a special prayer for my mother, who is going in for back/spinal surgery next Friday. This will be her third try at correcting the damage done after 40+ years of being a registered nurse, spending hours on her feet in patent leather nursing shoes, lifting and carrying patients when needed and essentially premanently injuring herself in the process. She is an 81-year-old cancer survivor who has had two previous surgeries, and can now barely walk without the constant assistance of my live-at-home sister. She has become dependent on Percocet to help relieve the pain. With God's help and blessing, she'll make it through this one last surgery and be able to complete physical therapy rehab, and no longer need to be in a mental fog and semi-stupor of painkillers so she can live out her last few years in dignity and with some semblence of self-mobility. God bless you all, and thank you for your prayers.

We give thanks to you Heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that you have given this faithful mother life, love, and all the tender care she has given both to her family and to strangers. Have mercy upon her, O LORD. Comfort her according to your mercies from of old. Uphold and bless her through those who now care for her. At the last bring her into Your nearer presence as one who has been redeemed by the blood of Christ Jesus, even as you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.

Praying for your mother’s successful surgery. Nursing is a tough, tough job. All the nurses in my family have ended up with various back issues.....

Oh, yes, she does. Her lower spine is held together by a scaffolding of mesh, wires, and screws. After her second surgery, she told me, “This is it, I think I’m heading for the final roundup.” I told her to quit talking like that, but I think she’s just ready to go home to be with Dad. The short e-mail I got from her this evening sounded like a goodbye note. It has impact because last week, my other sister checked to see if I’d submitted my application to the state veteran’s cemetary, so I could be buried with them (Dad and I are both ex-army, and she gets in as his spouse). It all kind of comes home to me now.

I've been through back surgery four times - discectomies and spinal fusions - and found relief after getting a spinal cord stimulator implant. It helps to mask the sciatic pain - which can be especially agonizing.

I will definitely be praying for your mom!

FATHER GOD,

Consider Your Promise as we lift up Viking2002’s mother to You in prayer. She has spent a lifetime serving the sick, even when she physically was unable to do so. See her through this upcoming surgery and allow her to live her life pain free.

Oh, the joys of those who are kind to the poor!
The Lord rescues them when they are in trouble.
2 The Lord protects them
and keeps them alive.
He gives them prosperity in the land
and rescues them from their enemies.
3 The Lord nurses them when they are sick
and restores them to health. (Psalm 41:1-3)

To GOD be the glory. Great things You have done.

In JESUS NAME we pray. AMEN.

Prayed for your mom. As a fellow nurse I know how difficult constant chronic pain can be. Take care, you sound like a good son.

Wow. God bless your mother. Don’t we all remember that horrible day. One of my younger brothers was in Jersey City that morning and saw the second plane hit the South Tower.

My youngest brother lost a number of friends who worked in The Sky Box Cafe in the South Tower. He works as a high end chef in NYC and almost took the job of being the manager of the Cafe but he had a better gig in some swanky place uptown.

He say’s he’s still haunted at night sometimes over the friends he lost. “I see their faces in my dreams sometimes’’ he once told me. He told me “They’re calling to me to help them and I can’t’’.

So your mother worked in Somerset, huh? My Mom worked at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. She was the OR Nursing Director there.

I’ll sure be praying for you mother. Hang in there FRiend, keep in touch.

They’d cleared the parking lots to set up helicopter landing pads and triage tents. She said the hardest thing was being sent home when they were told there were no inbound injured to treat - all were dead.

My sister was a nurse in Manhattan that day. Exact same thing. Her hospital got ready, and waited, and waited for casualties to come. Then that night they simply told all the extra staff to go home.

No, my mother worked at Cumberland Memorial Hospital. It was a little closer that any of the Pittsburgh hospitals, so it was decided that it was one going to act as a triage station, as well. It’s only about an hour or so from the crash site.
