VIDEO

For some reason I've had my doubts as to how well air fryers cook food despite hearing from people who are very enthusiastic about them. However, I remained curious about them and when I heard there was a sale on this air fryer, I decided to take the plunge. In this video we see the results of my first time using an air fryer.

I know that. And I also figure if you did, you would NOT have her’s displayed.

The top benefit of cooking with an air fryer is for health reasons — it cooks without oil.

That sounds very similar to our copper non stick pan w/ the grate.

I like my Ninja Food. I use it a lot. My wife got one for each of the grandkids in the Army, they can use them in their barracks. They both like them and use the a lot too.

Sounds like the same one I got and I wish I had just gotten a regular ole toaster oven broiler like I had, also a Cuisinart, and a separate fryer. Only used the fryer twice and agree on the cleaning part, totally sucks. No desire to use it as a fryer.

That’s awesome! Love the trucks in the background. I have spatchcocked a couple chickens, and have not had a problem with the skin. Our smoker is a Camp Chef that uses pellets, so the temperature is easier to regulate. I smoke the chicken at 350, which only takes about an hour when you spatchcock. I rub a butter/herb concoction under the skin and season the outside with whatever bbq seasoning I have in the cupboard. Skin comes out nice and crispy, and the meat is moist and smokey. I absolutely love it. Will probably be doing a chicken tomorrow, or maybe some ribs, or maybe both! Have done some teriyaki/hoisin salmon that was really tasty also.

I would highly recommend the Ninja foodi air fryer/dehydrator/pressure cooker if you want an air fryer. I have the 6.5 quart that was new 2 years ago. I think they have bigger ones out now, but mine is just perfect for us. I know you can get refurbished ones off Amazon for under $150. This is the one I have: https://www.amazon.com/Ninja-OP302-TenderCrisp-Technology-dehydrate/dp/B07K2LNDR4

That 4.2 qt Bella for $35 looks like a WINNER! Perhaps next week I’ll get it although I might see what Prime Day has. Just some extra flexibility beyond the Bella brand.

Thanks, I’m a fabricator/mechanic by trade and have a knack for figuring out how to put together scrap into something useful. All the door/lid hinges, the stove pipe damper and the legs are made from a couple of parts trucks of the same age. Only thing purchased are the door/lid latches. Nasty but fun work for me. Bad pic due to the smoker being in the shade but I noticed the back drop so i took it anyway.

I haven’t used the vertical chamber yet. I’ve got two grates left from one of those little round, cheapo Brinkmann smokers that will fit in it. Just need to install. Then it’s time for bean recipes. Good place for salmon too which I do in the cool end of the horizontal smoke chamber for now.

The water heaters were given to me. People with 100-ish foot deep wells throw them out because they’re full of chunks of lime. I cleaned one out by flushing water through the plumbing holes and we use it in the house. The others I stripped and cut them open for doors and dumped out the lime. Water heater tanks are ceramic coated on the inside so they clean up nice and won’t rust from the inside out. I can keep the outside painted with grill paint.

I’m going to have to go with a cheap single purpose air fryer for now due to funds. I do have a dehydrator which I forgot about and we have the instant pot plus a stove top pressure canner and pressure cooker, both with jigglers. I like the old school stuff for it’s simplicity. When the keypad/electronics or electric heating element goes out on the instant pot, my pressure cooker is the same size so the meat rack and veggie basket will swap right over.

That convinced me, too. I’m a cast iron die hard but I’ve been hearing all kinds of people that their air fryer is the greatest thing. My “Chefman” will arrive on Monday. With limited counter space if I don’t love the thing it will be gone in a week.

I got an ad about dog food and then about a woman in a mattress. So I’m good and the air fryer might be something I buy. Although now, I use mostly cast iron for chicken.

I just now ordered the 4.2 qt Bella air fryer from Best Buy. I’ll pick it up tomorrow. I ordered it since it is a good deal plus I am already used to using that brand. Also with the two air fryers acting in tandem, it will be able to cook enough food for my wife and me at the same time.

I heard you mention in the video wanting something more like 4 qts and when I looked for them and found the 4.2 qt at nearly 50% off, I figured you and others might be interested. I’ll have to wait on it until at least Thurs.

Well, the 2 qt and the 4 qt are both needed. Neither is quite enough by themselves but together they will provide most of our needs.

Good stuff! I buy a bucket of Kentucky fried and eat a coup[le of pieces then freeze the rest. A piece or two into the airfryer for fifteen minutes on 320 and the chicken is like when I brought it home! I use an elevated rack bought separately. If I want uncooked chicken cooked int he fryer I use the rack standing in a shallow non-stick pan which came with the rack and a couple other doodads.

Mini pizzas are easy and quick. French fries are superb. Tater tots and Brussel sprouts on 320 for eleven minutes are perfect. But my favorite use for the air fryer is heating up oatmeal cookies. I bake the softies then freeze a couple of doaen. When I want three cookies with hot Earl Grey I just reconstitute them in the air frier, eight minutes at 300 degrees..

Yeah, you can tell I love my five liter air fryer.

Just did a "air fryer vs. convection oven" search.

Results: they do the same thing, cook the same way, but air fryer is smaller.

I've had a countertop oven with convection setting for many years, cost $65, and I will vouch for the above results. And you can cook two 12" pizzas in it. And cook a rotisserie chicken or roast.

LOL. The ziplock bag is super important, the rub is the shake and bake step . A hit of soy sauce or worchesteshire sauce helps too. But discarding the bag before frying is the most important step. Frying plastic is nasty. Enjoy

Curious about how food tastes cooked in air fryer.

It depends on if you use herbs, spices, and seasonings. So far my seasoning mix worked fine. I had an aunt that knew little about cooking. She just tossed a few eggs to fry on a teflon pan and then fried bacon after that. Of course, they were pretty tasteless. I told her that she needs to fry the bacon FIRST and then fry the eggs so as to get that bacon flavor in the eggs. Oh, and I told her to add garlic and other seasonings. I was amazed at how ignorant she was on how to give flavor to foods. In my brutal honesty I told her she was in a way torturing her kids and husband by feeding them flavorless food.
