Our most important and cherished institutions—the military, science, and the law—are losing the trust of Middle America.

Americans mostly have given up on familiar institutions for entertainment, guidance, or reassurance. What now do Hollywood, network news, the media in general, Silicon Valley, the NBA, NFL, MLB, or higher education all have in common?

A propensity to lecture Americans on their moral inferiorities, a general ethical decline in their own disciplines, and a strange obsession to acquire great wealth while living in contrast to what they advocate for others. Add also incompetence. Movies are mostly bad now. The network news is blow-dried groupthink. There is no “paper of record” anywhere. Twitter and Facebook no longer even try to hide their politicized contortions of warped rules and twisted protocols.

Professional athletes are now reminders of why no one ever wants to be “enlightened” by multimillionaire quarter-educated narcissists. The public a half-century ago lost faith in academia. It wasn’t just that most new bad ideas could be traced to the campus or that hothouse professors increasingly seemed both ignorant and arrogant, but rather their product—educating students—was defective. No one believes anymore a BA is synonymous with knowledge. More likely, it is a euphemism for incurring $100,000 in debt.

But until recently there were still a few institutions we considered sacrosanct, incorruptible, and invincible amid faith-based assertions, toxic woke fads, civil dissension, and hatred of the past. One certainly was the military. Another was “science,” or rather the scientists, researchers, and investigators who devoted themselves to disinterested empiricism. And, a third, was the sacred idea of the “law,” or the idea that Americans respect our statutes because they were crafted by ourselves and applicable to all, equally, and without exception.

A propensity to lecture Americans on their moral inferiorities,>>>>

Stand up for America. The only thing the radicalized zippy pop “revlooshunists” have is a bull horn

America, be confident in your superiority.

VDH nails it again.

Much of this would still be true if Trump were president, but we would know that he was trying hard to reverse the decline. When Trump tries to accomplish things, they tend to get done.

Instead we are being led down the drain by a senile leftist fool who has a hard time getting up in the morning.

He only gives recent examples.

What about the IRS versus tea party and no correction by the Republicans when they regained power, the misstatement of the CPI for years, global warming, Hillary Clinton skating for years, border security, gay marriage, no examination of the scores of affidavits regarding election fraud versus the investigation of Russia collusion, leaking by the FBI and military is fine but leaking by Snowden and Wikileaks bad, the Seth Rich murder, Hunter’s laptop, Hunters cushy board job, GWB abandonment of Christians in Iraq. It goes on and on.

California should sink or swim with him as the lone republican candidate running in the recall. Should he(we) lose we can all admit it’s over in this state. Stop the one-upmanship politics.

I wasn’t criticizing him. Just pointing out the changes have been going on a long time.

It would be great if VDH ran. I see the GOP has three announced candidates and the Democrats one. The GOP needs to decide on one.

VDH is a calm fella. That’s what we need. To fight our enemies at this point would be the final straw. We’re getting there anyway and democrats will come to the same conclusion. Think water. Need more of it. Then there’s the forest clearing. A calm(academic) candidate people would have to listen too. Academics are not the answer but they have a place here. Even outsiders would have to stay out.

an interesting point abotu hte feet of clay analogy- the clay represents foreigners who come to a country but will Not assimilate into society- they refuse to be citizens through and through- they destroy that country from the inside out, and the whole statue comes tumbling down

Muslims were polled, and the ones who were at least honest enough to answer the questions, a majority of them said that Sharia should be the law of the US, and a majority of them agreed with jihad- and this was just fro m the ones that answered the question honestly- in islam, lying is approved- when it is against foreigners- so the total % of polled muslims who don’t care to even assimilate into American culture/society is likely even higher because some muslims polled refused to answer- or lied-

Written by psychiatrist, Anthony Storr.

Book Description
How do gurus get their power? Gurus are extraordinary individuals who attract fanatical followers and wield incredible and at times destructive control over them.

In this remarkable study, Anthony Storr, the acclaimed author of Solitude and Music and the Mind, examines why we are so enthralled with these dogmatic figures who satisfy our need for certainty.

Taking as his examples such diverse figures as Jesus, Sigmund Freud, Ignatius Loyola, and David Koresh, Storr traces the typical patterns—often involving psychotic illness—that shape the guru’s development, and reveals how certain gurus become monsters while others become spiritual beacons.
