A concern was that if a single turret were disabled, the ship would lose fifty percent of its overall firepower, but each turret was also divided in half by a bulkhead of 45mm. Each half thus contained two of the 15-inch guns, which were fed by their own respective magazine below decks. Therefore the only thing the two compartments actually shared was the barbette.
Richelieu was also armed with three sets of triple 6-inch guns mounted aft of the superstructure in smaller traversable turrets. She was also equipped with an aircraft deck with an integrated hanger, which allowed the battleship to carry up to four seaplanes for use in reconnaissance and artillery spotting sorties.
The Germans could smell the perfume from the ship from miles away : )
Badger nailed it!
I look at movies and laugh when they have explosions in space with huge sound effects...............
There’s no runway. The plane gets catapulted off, and then lands at sea and is lifted up by crane.

Many thanks for clearing that up! Now I understand.
Hmmmm ... you know, a cow pad launcher might make a good anti riot weapon.
Of course a weapon that slings a constant stream of slimes piggie poo would be more entertaining.
People always plan for the last war they fought—not the new war coming. Our carriers are floating coffins as is our tanks. We might be better off with Battleships—they can survive better even when hit with a small nuke.
And, these missiles are relatively cheap when compared to a carrier battle group.
Just not yet technically feasible. From testing failures I’d guess that we’re at least a decade away from fielding hypersonic missiles. Meanwhile, like the battleships of WW2, the modern aircraft carrier will soldier on.
Our carriers are floating coffins as is our tanks.
You may have noticed that the US Army has been shedding tanks for quite a few years, and the USMC has just eliminated their tank battalions completely.
I would say this indicates that the tank is assuming a different tactical role within the overall US warfighting doctrine, and that when the tank is replaced it will be with something other form of armored mobile platform. Because armor is the only way you retain mobility.
We’d be better off using stealth subs than surface ships. Times have changed from WWII.
Look closer.

Alfred Thayer Mahan you are not.
I thought the French would have put both turrets in the rear.
