Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) has been accused of traveling to Cancun, Mexico, amid the ongoing crisis in Texas, where millions have been left without power or heat in freezing temperatures.
Photos circulating on social media overnight appeared to show the senator at an airport and on an airplane. The idea that Cruz and his family had flown to Mexico soon spread on Twitter.
Ted Cruz was photographed at IAH in the United lounge flying from Houston to Cancun.
AP confirmed that Cruz traveled to Mexico on Wednesday for a family vacation.
The high-profile Republican lawmaker went for a long-planned trip to Cancun and was expected to return almost immediately, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation who spoke on the condition of anonymity to share private conversations.
Spokespersons for Cruz’s office did not immediately respond to request for comment Wednesday night or Thursday.
“That’s something that he has to answer to his constituents about,” state Republican Party Chairman Allen West said when asked whether Cruz’s travel was appropriate while Texans are without power and water.
“I’m here trying to take care of my family and look after my friends and others that are still without power,” West said. “That’s my focus.”
The situation is getting worse for Cruz as an audio recording was just published where he encourages Texans to stay home:
“… we could see 100 people lose their lives this week in Texas. So don’t risk it. Keep your family safe.”

Supposedly return ticket was for Saturday. Supposedly United Airlines has confirmed this info. I await to see if this is true.

I will withhold judgement until after it all plays out. My response is only to what it appears to be, with full knowledge that I may be responding to utter bullchit. Actually, I should have included that caveat.
If it’s a long planned vacation, I don’t blame him for not cancelling it, but still, he should have been considered the optics. Might want to charter next time. heh.

It’s only “bad optics” because Republicans are held to a “Caesar’s wife” level of expectations. It’s 4 years to his next election. This tempest in a teapot will blow over by then.
You are too new to have been through many of the various insanities that planted themselves here. Chemtrails was a big one. Then the pogrom against everyone that opposed Bush’s insane Patriot Act. And the “if you don’t support invading Iraq and Afghanistan you are a traitor” schtick. And the Civil War threads pretending that it was about States Rights. And the pointless “natural born citizen” debate rages on still. What else? Oh yes, sovereign citizens and gold trimmed US Flags.

With so many RATs around us, I think Mexico sounds safer.
There is no perfect candidate. Much as I love Trump he did a terrible job with his appointments and fatally neglected to fire as many deep staters as he legally could in 2017. I can think of a lot of Senators far worse for conservatives than Ted Cruz.
I suspect liberals are here posting these attacks.
The folks being critical of Cruzs decision are being petty and hypocritical and should just STFU and certainly learn to get over themselves and get a life and move on.
