Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser told “Just the News” on Friday that the Democratic-led Senate and House will vote in favor of statehood for the District of Columbia and send the bill to President Joe Biden’s desk, who has expressed support for D.C. statehood in the past.
Bowser said, “The nation’s capital, the federal enclave, continues to exist as the nation’s capital and everything outside of those new boundaries becomes the 51st state. Our congresswoman – we had our first successful vote on statehood in the House of Representatives last year. She reintroduced the bill. She has a record number of sponsors.”

It makes me question all of the others that he appointed. I’ve soured on the Federalist Society.
A thought experiment....
So, let’s assume that DC is admitted as a state. As the nation’s capital, the governor of said capital, would have control of the district, and thus the congress would be subordinate to them. Since the capital building, and all of the federal agencies would thus be vassals of the governor.
Once the state is created, then they will go to the sympathic courts and have the governor’s power over the congress and federal government increased, because of the nature of the governor’s authority over their “state”.
This is how they will overthrow the constitution and make the governor of DC, absolute ruler of the USA.
I don’t trust any of his appointments either. Maybe one or two, in time, will be MAGA people, but I do feel our effort has failed. We had the right message at the right time, and DJT was the right messenger, but the system he entered was/is filled with legions of despicable people.
Well Bowser might not want to count her chickens before they hatch. It looks like Schumer won’t even be able to eliminate or even change the filibuster which would mean DC statehood and the most of the other things they want are DOA because they will require 60 votes to pass. McConnell is refusing to support any organizing resolution that alters the filibuster. All Republicans and a couple moderate democrats like Joe Manchin oppose changes and unlike legislation, a Senate rules change actually requires a majority of Senators support it, (the VP can’t break the tie).
If we still had a Constitution it would require an amendment to it.
Sadly, there are some Freepers who honestly believe we can recover the country even after letting the left have full run for the next 2-4 year. SMFH.
The Constitution has already been rendered irrelevant and meaningless.
Especially Kavanaugh who for all we know may in fact be what people claimed about him
Very, very, bad idea.
The LIBs will NEVER give up their ‘thorn in the side’ issue that they get to bring up any time they are in the minority in any of the branches that could shoot DC statehood down.
Once Ds in complete control, DC statehood, homeless, and other ‘sticky subjects’ get the bums rush out the door.
I think that ‘WE’ can safely say that if DC gets statehood, it is only because the LIBs will believe Rs will never get a majority anywhere, anyplace.
Much like PDJT FIRST major mistake - when he went after BOSCare, knowing he had a majority in Senate & Congress and - after - most of them had been running AGAINST BOScare when they knew that it would NEVER be overturned.
Sadly PDJT didn’t read this first betrayal along with Sessions refusing to ‘take a side’ and different Department heads (Comey) complaining that the POTUS wanted some kind of ‘loyalty oath’ from people he had inherited with known much different mindsets.
Sorry that was Mitch McConnell that did in the GOP down there with his 2,000 dollar checks are socialism for wealthy people comment...exit polls even said it was a factor
Does that mean they have to come up with their own taxes? Are they cut off from the federal dole? How ever will they exist on their own?
There is no more rules or Constitution. Anything goes now.
Biden is a yes man and will do what he is told.
Gaming the Senate by admitting new states was a HUGE issue in the beginning of the Republic, starting with Vermont necessitating the admission of Kentucky for balance.
It led to the compromise of 1820, the Mexican War, the compromise of 1850, and the Kansas-Nebraska Act.
It also led to a bloody civil war.
What goes around, comes around.
And old friend of mine, Phil E. Buster, told me that making Washington D.C. the 51st state is not going to be as easy as the Dems might think. Phil is a long time insider in the Senate so he should know what he is talking about.
Well, the State of DC will get 3 Electors as a result of being a State, but the 3 Electors Congress awarded DC in 1960 with Amendment XXIII won't go away.
There will still have to be a Federal District, most DC statehood schemes admit this.
That rump Federal District will still have residents - Joe, Jill, Kamala, and Douglas, at least.
Will those four individuals get 3 Electors?
Let's read the Constitution:
"The District constituting the seat of government of the United States shall appoint in such manner as the Congress may direct: A number of electors of President and Vice President equal to the whole number of Senators and Representatives in Congress to which the District would be entitled if it were a state, but in no event more than the least populous state; they shall be in addition to those appointed by the states, but they shall be considered, for the purposes of the election of President and Vice President, to be electors appointed by a state; and they shall meet in the District and perform such duties as provided by the twelfth article of amendment.
So it sounds like Joe, Jill, Kamala and Douglas will be appointing 3 Electors in 2024, all on their own.
Every major metropolitan area needs to be calved off into its own state. California, New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Illinois would be nice, well-run conservative lands without these giant collectivist cancers metastasizing in their midst.
We could call it the "ForBiden City"
If this ignorant a$$hole doesn’t know how a state is created she should be thrown out of office!
Wouldn’t the city council qualify as a legislature, or would they have to re-label that apparatus?
Would be amusing...they’d have to have a governor, a mayor, state legislature, state court system, and a enormous state government. Somewhere in this mechanism...the Georgetown residents would grasp that a major property tax is coming, along with a state income tax problem.
