“1,384 days,” former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo tweeted Thursday, which is the current countdown until the next presidential election in November 2024.
The message ignited a swirl of speculation from social media users, as it was a clear tease of a 2024 White House bid. Fred Wellman, The Lincoln Project’s senior advisor for Veterans Affairs, dismissed the tweet, responding “This is just sad.”

Since when it is it “sad” for the member of the losing party to suggest that we “look forward” to the next election.
I am sure if anyone wanted to spend the time to search through comments from the past few elections they would find someone posting the same message (if not the EXACT same message.)
The world did not end on Wednesday, not any more than whenever one leader in politics, business, the military or any other organization, steps down and another takes over.
You take the moment to reflect on the person who is gone, and you start planning on how things will work going forward,.
Nobody can replace Trump either for his followers or for his haters. But, Pompeo might do fine for Trump’s followers without initially being hated so much. Of course, he will come to be hated. Haters gonna hate. I would be very interested in whether Trump endorses Pompeo.
Pompeo was on the leaked call with the GA GOP. Pence was not. I found that very odd. I do think Pompeo is going to run in 2024 if Trump does not. Or maybe as Trump’s VP. We shall see.
I think if Trump endorses someone, it will be DeSantis, and frankly, we need a Governor, who has executive experience. Especially a governor of a populous Swing State, like Florida.
The Democrats are going to throw everything at him in 2022, and if he can successfully overcome it and prevail. He’s good to go for 2024.
Why bother?
The Democrats now have full control of the electoral process. The only ‘Pubbies were going to hold office are ones that the Left want in office.
He's got EXCELLENT creds, too!
I think Cruz is already posturing to make himself the front-runner.
Not only that but million of Trump voters will stay at home unless Trump is running or he forms a new party (Patriot Party).
He’d make a good VP pick for Trump.
Trump for Congress 2022 (Speakership)
Trump/Pompeo 2024
Pence for local dog catcher (Elkhart, IN)
If Lincoln Project SAD, We are HAPPY...
There’s talk Pompeo may soon be VP. Flynn a roving ambassador.
I heard that there are 17 or 19 COUNTIES in USA that determine the election.
Is this true?
That product would be the answer to the question, “What if you threw a political party and nobody came?”
Oh come now. GHWB was a former CIA director. And look how well he turned out.
(LOL)
I don't know anyone that fits that criteria. He/She doesn't have to campaign or attend rallies. He/She wouldn't have to make rational statements.
The candidate would be assured of 80-90m votes. The only he/she would lose is by vote fraud........never mind!
Bob Dole's turn, again?
I like Ron DeSantis and also Greg Abbott. Both of their states ran clean elections.
We have a very strong bench. Not like that other party with a bunch of has beens and never wuzzes.
“Too fat.” Also, he seems to be a grim, humorless person with a cold, sinister personality and a thin skin.
He’s highly intelligent and well-qualified but he’s just not personable enough to attract supporters.
Interesting.
