One of the things that I will really, really, really, really miss about President Trump is his ability to reveal the left and the NeverTrump GOP establishment as a bunch of slobbering imbeciles using 240 characters or less.
A few hours ago, President Trump sent out this tweet
The lockdowns in Democrat run states are absolutely ruining the lives of so many people – Far more than the damage that would be caused by the China Virus. Cases in California have risen despite the lockdown, yet Florida & others are open & doing well. Common sense please!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 26, 2020
This caused walls, ceiling, floors, and windows to be sprayed with what passes for brain matter exploding from the ears and nasal passages of people who react to the truth the way Dracula reacts to Holy Water.
“Florida is NOT” is trending on Twitter. This is how Twitter frames the subject:
People are pushing back on Trump’s claims that Florida is doing well in the pandemic
A sampling:
Florida is not doing well they have increasing cases and deaths along with becoming a dictatorship

You're not the one to be talking about 'common sense,' mister world's worst president. Florida is NOT doing well, and neither are you. https://t.co/1lqeQAOs3g

So many lies. First of all it’s Democratic-led states. You don’t get to decide how to say it. Second, Florida is not doing well. It’s hitting new records because your disciple is irresponsible. Third, it’s not called the Chinese virus, which is racist thing to say. #Jan20

Florida is not doing well & Governor Ron DeathSantis needs to face criminal charges for manipulating data, lying to the public, and killing 30k Floridans (so far). https://t.co/goMHWrFRA7

“People.” Yeah, right.
Here are the facts. Numbers of cases is a totally bogus metric that is glommed onto by the media because the number is big. Liberal politicians love to talk about cases because if you test enough people using imprecise tests, you can juice the number of cases and extend your ability to rule by decree. Everyone in the Pandemic Porn industry loves cases. The number of cases are irrelevant, unless it requires a limited resource to manage. A case that requires ICU admittance is very different from a case that is virtually symptom-free and requires only a period of rest. The reason states don’t regularly report hospital bed utilization and ICU utilization is because those numbers will not tell a tale that will set off a round of fecal incontinence in the newsrooms of MSNBC or the Washington Post. They also don’t talk about the other side to the large number of infections. None of those people can catch the virus again and none of them can spread the virus (it’s true; that is the entire principle behind vaccines).
President Trump was obviously not making an absolute statement, but a relative one. So let’s see how Florida, operating as a civilized state government by the rule of law, stacks up to the example of California, where living in fear and being ruled by arbitrary decree is now the norm. Since the left loves number of cases…and since it is the easiest data to produce, let’s use their preferred tool of measurement:
It is media malpractice that the contrast of California & Florida is not the lead story of every major media outlet in the country right now
One of the most locked down places on earth has MORE THAN DOUBLE the case rate of one of the least locked down & there is complete silence pic.twitter.com/Bav9udp03y

Anyone tweeting that Florida is not doing well is just hoping. It's not even debatable. Anything can happen but right this minute both NY and California would trade with Florida and everyone knows it. And Florida is wide open while CA and NY are crippled with closures. pic.twitter.com/xNPgx6CnBF

The fact is that lockdowns aren’t working. If they were working, then both New York and California would have much better data than Florida. They don’t. The opposite of better is what they have.
While Andrew Cuomo is trying to exterminate the elderly and Gavin Newsom is exercising Divine Rule, Florida is going on with its collective life. The critters screaming at President Trump and Governor Ron DeSantis on Twitter should be demanding that every state do what Florida is doing…and they would, if they cared more about the welfare of fellow citizens than they do about their hatred of President Trump.
Florida is doing very well health-wise and its economy is coming back. Not the news the left wants to hear.
Truth. I’m an RN in a Florida hospital. We are NOT overloaded. Not even close. Nowhere near as many covid patients as we had in the initial wave months ago, and far fewer critically-ill ones.
My neighbors on one side and across the street are both husband and wife nurses here in Florida. They tell us exactly as you have stated. No Wuhan Flu stress whatsoever. They listen and read the “news” and they know it’s all MSM hysterical hype.
We talk regularly because they know we are caring for an elderly Lewy Body Dementia patient in our home. My mother’s youngest sister.
Does Florida have a better handle on controlling illegal alien entry than California? There has been talk of illegal aliens driving the high number of cases here (especially admittance to emergency rooms). If so, for the legal population most of the hysteria is unfounded (except for the elderly and people with comorbidities) and people can and should return to their normal lives.
Comparatively, I honestly don't know. I know we DO have a good number of illegals in FL; we see them in the hospitals.
What they say about hispanics (and blacks) being more prone to severe presentations appears to be true in my observations. So just owning to demographics, I would expect CA to be pretty busy. But I don't buy the panic porn about the system collapsing. And if it IS, WTH didn't they prepare for extra surge capacity?
Another observation: when things actually were pretty bad last spring, hospitals in the Northeast were desperately seeking travel nurses from all over the country to help with the load. My wife (also an RN) actually went back up to MA for a couple months to help cover. We're not hearing about any desperate need for travel nurses now (for CA or anywhere).
Some recent studies posted on FR show that the worst COVID-19 cases have low levels of this vitamin in their body. What do nursing home patients and imprisoned convicts have in common? Limited unfiltered exposure to sunlight.
Significant? You tell me.
New York has people squashed into high-rises, to the point that the sun is hidden from most sidewalks...and doesn't get into the subway at all. Low D, high "cases" and ICU occupancy.
I don't understand about California, though. Is it because so many of the propeller-beanie-wearing people never get outside, because they are too busy being hunched over their computers? (Not to mention that the glare of sunshine would wash out their laptop and tablet screens.)
For me, I'm increasing my D intake from 2000 IU/day to 5000 IU/day. Following the science, I am.
A guy who is a doctor in Calif called into Rush’s show last week and said the number of hospital patients in Calif is so high because most are illegals . They are packed 10 to 12 into a single household. They are reluctant to get medical help at the expense of being discovered and as such get sicker and sicker and spread it to everyone else around them.
If "journalists" and the medical community in general were truly interested in distributing actually useful information to the population, they would regularly release factual data on severity of illness and corresponding vitamin D levels in hospitalized patients.
But no. The only thing EVERYONE carries on about is the utterly meaningless and irrelevant raw number of positive test results.
A friend flew from DC to Tampa, FL the other day. As her plan touched down the entire cabin erupted in applause, because they had landed in “free America”.
Thanks, this is what I suspected.
However, the media (if it mentions COVID-19 casees by ethnicity) tries to put a racial discrimination spin on it, without examining other factors such as you have mentioned.
That is exactly what is happening in the Phoenix metropolitan area. In our hospital in Mesa, we are admitting husbands, wives and adult children all living in the same household.
Hey, I live in Florida.
Go to my little job and fulfill my duties with Loads of folks coming and going.
Go to a brewpub with loads of folks.
Wear a mask in public. Don’t go into a store without a mask.
Pretty simple, even the stoopids in N.J., N.Y., Penn., and even the serious fools in Georgia and Michigan can understand these very simple rules to follow,
In spite of your Governors believing you are too stoopid to do such
Oh Well.
At least one of the Vitamin D authorities that I have read is of the opinion that oral Vitamin D supplements are inferior to Sunlight/skin internally generated vitamin D. While I give that some credence, I have recently increased my oral D from 2000IU to 4000IU per day while still spending a lot of time on the trail (Central TX). The quoted opinion is from Dr. Michael F. Holick, Ph.D, M.D. in "The Vitamin D Solution" But was from memory, not verbatim.
Probably because vitamin D is just one part of the enormously complicated interaction between sunlight and our immune systems.
I work in environmental services in a hospital ER in southern NJ and we’re no where near peak capacity either.
