Johns Hopkins University has just reported the following:
“Surprisingly, the deaths of older people stayed the same before and after COVID-19. Since COVID-19 mainly affects the elderly, experts expected an increase in the percentage of deaths in older age groups. However, this increase is not seen from the CDC data. In fact, the percentages of deaths among all age groups remain relatively the same.”
Although the people who conducted this study find the results “surprising,” I myself do not.
Anyway, this is proof that the panic and hysteria over COVID-19, as well as the lockdowns, closures, cancellations, restrictions, and other authoritarian actions on the part of political leaders, were all completely unjustified.
Which is exactly what I have been saying all along.

That might be an exceptionally bright student’s opinion. Just saying.

The data is in but your figure of well over 4 million deaths is wrong.
In New Mexico the daily deaths listed by age by the health dept. still manage to show that those over 70 are consistently 50-75% of the deaths, every day.
We are told there have been more than a quarter million covid-19 deaths.
But it turns out, the same number of deaths would have happened with or without Covid 19.
That is a significant finding.
The paper was not from a student.
It was the student newsletter reporting on it.
I read that total USA deaths in 2018 were 2.8 million. We are on pace for that same number in 2020. What a farce!
She’s a PhD who teaches microeconomic theory, statistics, and econometrics.
Could be the overall death rate remains the same because COVID is picking off people who would have been picked off by a co-morbidity otherwise. But this is still a “good” thing, because the risk of dying while moving about the country is still roughly the same overall, if I’m getting that correctly.

A student paper isn’t something that’s going to get peer reviewed and then end up in a medical journal, as far as I know.

In contrast, so many people died during the 1918 flu pandemic that in only one year the average life expectancy in the U.S. dropped by 12 years.
Libs go all apoplectic if you compare COVID to the flu, but the 1918 flu is still the worst pandemic in the history of mankind.
