...In that years presidential election, Buckss swing voters helped deliver the state to then-vice president George H. W. Bush over Michael Dukakis, the Democratic governor of Massachusetts. Bush became the last Republican to win the county.
And yet, in 2016, Hillary Clinton carried Bucks by fewer than 2,700 votes...This narrow margin was a forgotten factor in Trumps statewide victory by about 44,000 votes. Bucks was a disaster, one Democratic media strategist told the Inquirer. In a county where Democrats have outnumbered Republicans since 2008, Clintons underperformance indicated that Bucks remained an unpredictable battleground. This year, suburban Philadelphia is undoubtedly Joe Bidens protectorate, but pockets of silent Trump voters still live in the region -- especially in Bucks, a microcosm of Americas political realignment.
... In Lower Bucks, working-class Democrats support Trump. These Obama-to-Trump voters are descended from Catholic Philadelphians who, after World War II, settled in places like Levittown -- a symbol of 50s-era suburban growth -- to work in the areas industrial base. They resent their now decades-long decline, and they see Trump as a defender of their economic interests.
Meanwhile, Central Buckss wealthy, congested townships are the site of a suburban revolt dating to the 2006 midterms, when voters rejected Republicans over the Iraq war. These upper-middle-class communities are made up of moderate Republicans and progressive Democrats who share a contempt for Trump. They favor down-ballot Democrats at the polls.
Finally, less populous Upper Bucks -- a mix of suburban and agricultural settings -- trends Republican. Upper Bucks, more an extension of the Lehigh Valley, is culturally disconnected from Philadelphia. Overall, Upper Buckss lifelong Republicans and Lower Buckss disillusioned Democrats comprise Trumps voting base...Indeed, a recent Pew survey found that among registered voters, the issue of violent crime ranks nearly as important as the coronavirus....

Bucks isn’t very far from Trenton, Camden and Philadelphia. Law and order and the construction of low income housing in the suburbs should sell with normal people.
I live in the epicenter of bucks county. And I can say as of today there are very few Biden signs in town as opposed to four years ago the amount of Hillary signs . You drive outside of the town that I live in and there have been Trump signs there for 3 to 4 months. This is in the center of bucks county. This is the first time people will be voting for a near dead person. Just proves one overriding fact the Democrats would have voted for Hitler.
Thanks for the local eye witness testimony on this.
If it doesn’t rain this weekend, I’m going to take a walk around some different developments in my area to take a sign census.
MY District.
I am in the middle of Bucks County. We have an absolute turd of a Congressman, Mike Fitzpatrick. Only 2 other Republicans vote more often with Pelosi. I always vote against him in Primary. Will vote for him in General because I will not do ANYTHING to ever help a Democrat win.
The County is a toss up. Advertising needs to drive Safety and protecting Suburbs. Housewives fear City problems coming to Suburbs and ruining neighborhoods and schools.
No borders, unlimited immigration, will flood schools and overrun hospitals.
Biden and NEW Democrats will ruin both.
Messaging needs to emphasize that the new Democrat party is radical and the changes they will bring are very negative to the suburbs. Permission needs to be given to these typical Democrats to not vote for the new radical Democrats.
Do this and Trump wins bucks county and Pennsylvania going away .
I would think “bell-weather” counties don’t stay bell-wether for long due to shifting demographics. Just look at the one they are touting in this article, Hillary won it but Trump won the state.
Agreed. Trump obviously rubs some people the wrong way. Most important is not him but his policies. He needs to up play that aspect in his ads in certain areas. His policies are what should be most important not Trump himself in such areas.
Biden offers real threats with Democratic radicalization and open borders, gun control, giving away Medicare to illegals, taking freedoms from local governments, turning suburbs into what they’ve already done to cities. Dems have ruined cities and states they control.
I’m curious, how is the Gov Wolf and Sec. Levine shutdown show playing in central Bucks county? In the hinterlands, they’re deeply unpopular, but they were already deeply unpopular and the shutdowns, particularly the bar and sports gathering edicts just add additional reasons. I know there are a lot more white collar families able to keep working from home out there, but it’s also an area where parents have a lot of organized activities and programs for their kids that have to be impacted.
Many people around here are scared to death of COVID and think the gov kept them all from dying by shutting down the state. We have friends who recently moved 7 miles into Bucks County, and they say it is very very different. From my work interactions in the past, I would agree. While Bucks is drifting leftward, there are a lot of small business owners and greater self reliance generally. When driving in the area, we see more Trump signs in Bucks than Montco, and in both counties, I'd say there are fewer Biden signs than we saw for Hillary. Many of us have experienced vandalism during elections, so Trump support is not accurately measured by signage. I look for American flags. They are typically in front of R homes, sometimes in combination with signs supportive of the police.
Someone posted the results of his sign census earlier this week. I don’t remember from where...
But his results:
Trump in the lead...followed by
Yard Sale...
Biden in third place... Gave me laugh.
Vigo County in Indiana is the true bell weather of the country and their polls are NOWHERE. Cannot find anything online.
The suburban women vote will decide Pennsylvania and the election. It’s a toss up between the security moms and View watching Karens. These women voted Bush twice and Obama twice. I lived in Montgomery County that turned deep blue in one election and they elected the biggest POS ever in this Wolf a-hole BUT Trump won the state.
Montco women can be a frustrating lot. So much ‘correctness’ and virtue it’s a wonder some of them aren’t blinded by the sight of their own halos in the mirror. Others are genuinely kind but so deeply indoctrinated they have no idea there are other ways of looking at the world.
I know the area well. It’s about and hour west of me here in NJ. Many years ago the wife and I used to go out to new Hope. I remember seeing lots of Hillary signs out there.
I find this to be interesting. My direct 8th great-grandfather, John Chapman, was one of the original settlers of Bucks County, living in Wrightstown, Newtown and the area. They were Quakers who came there to get away from oppression by the ruling class. Hope they go big for Trump.
Bush the first won the last election of the Reagan decade. Republicans have won the popular vote one time since 1988. The Clintons, the media, and Democrat fraud have dominated presidential politics since.
I once had a good friend from Bucks. He is apolitical, Doesn’t vote. Doesn’t care. It’s a good county to keep an eye on.
Our turd congressman is Brian Fitzpatrick not Mike. Mike was our previous congressman who recently passed away. But you are correct Brian is a turd.
ping!
Me, bought my first one two weeks ago!
