Businesses have long based their policies on what makes money. They need to create the conditions that will bring customers back. Thus, when companies abruptly change course, people assume it is linked to the companys bottom line.
If directors perceive something that will impact their reputation and profits, they will find ways not to offend customers. That is why protests work. No one likes bad publicity. No one doubles down on decisions that lose money.
When Companies Panic
Such reactions can backfire. Companies sometimes panic and do not follow what their customers think but act out of fear they might not be following politically correct thinking. A&E Network, a popular television franchise, made such a fear-driven decision and is now paying the price.
A&E is co-owned by Walt Disney Co. and Hearst Corp., two well-established members of the liberal media establishment. The company was prospering despite troubled COVID waters. Until recently, Its prime-time viewership was up 4% from the year before.
Then, it canceled its hit reality show. Ratings have since plummeted. Average prime-time viewership is now 498,000 people, a drop of 49 percent.
The canceled show was a victim of the cancel culture devastating the country. Live PD is a police reality show following police on their rounds in several cities. It can have as many as 1.9 million viewers watching its Friday and Saturday night episodes. These shows also enjoy popularity when played as reruns on weekdays. The success of Live PD inspired similar shows using the same police theme. All told, police reality drama can account for as much as 85 percent of the companys viewership.

This is the sharpest of sharp dividing lines between the forces of evil and good
Those who support law-enforcement the rule of law and civil society
versus those
that want the destruction of such ; the breakdown of order ; and there to be no consequences to illegal actions
There is no middle ground ! you either support the police or you do not!
Any smart network would pick up the show and start earning those bucks A&E threw away.
Everybody is mad they cancelled this show. Hubby watched it constantly. They are imbeciles. We have imbeciles in charge of way too much stuff in this country.
“No one doubles down on decisions that lose money.”
DC comics, Marvel, Kathleen Kennedy, sjw’s, all double down on stupid.
sigh....yep.....
“Taking Away Responsibility
His failure shows the inherent flaw of socialism. This flaw is so fundamental that even a successful practitioner of the free market cannot overcome it. Socialism removes the element of personal responsibility from the recipient.
Socialists have a hard time with personal responsibility because it creates inequities. Any system will have those who exercise responsibility and those who do not. Those who are responsible will take whatever initiative that the system allows and prosper relative to those who are irresponsible. The result is inequity.
By accepting the fact that those who have the right stuff will prosper, the free market inspires people to acquire those characteristics it breeds responsibility. Socialism spawns dependence. Dependent societies cannot thrive. As the Panera Cares experience shows, they will eventually fail.”
Truff....
“This is the sharpest of sharp dividing lines between the forces of evil and good...Those who support law-enforcement the rule of law and civil society versus those that want the destruction of such ; the breakdown of order ; and there to be no consequences to illegal actions”
Not quite. BOTH sides support law and order. The difference is that the Left only supports it when they fully control it, in order to be used as tools of oppression. Trust me, if the Dems get full power, the lawlessness will quickly end, and the mass indoctrinations will start and progress into prison camps, for those who resist (standard template). But there WILL be law and order, with the only possible exception being our side actually fighting back, for once. But then who is for law and order, and who isn’t, should that day come?
“A&E has completely misread its viewers sentiments.”
I would say that A&E knew what its viewers wanted and completely ignored it. They went with what Karens wanted more than common or good business sense. They know that she only has the public spotlight for a little over 2 months but they don’t care.
Any smart network would pick up the show and start earning those bucks A&E threw away.

FOX used to be that network.....
Was watching L&O, Criminal Intent reruns on Oxygen and as of last night they were still running PSA for Justice for George Floyd and some other crap along that line (I skip through ads but picked up on tail end of that)
Can’t really ‘understand’ that movement —would think if they backed something like the swat team ‘mistake’ and/or the shooting of the woman by a cop in her back yard checking out a ‘suspicious person’ they would garner more support...
But I guess it is more ‘in your face’ if they back thugs, just trying to stretch it to the limit...
Besides Live PD and the related spinoffs, I don’t actually know of another show on that network.
Live PD was the only show I watched. I cut the cord once they canceled it and I knew there would be no college football.
Disney is an evil company now.
Except when the police abdicate their responsibility & watch as businesses burn & allow rioters take over their stations. Or allow rioters do whatever they want but padlock restaurant doors & arrest nail salon owners.
The police work for the government, not the citizens. They will not be on our side. Instead of kneeling before thugs try actually doing their job-protect law abiding citizens, not rioting savages.
Reality chooses no sides.
It would be interesting if they finally started disobeying their higher-ups to enforce the law. Because the law exists, whether the higher-ups choose to observe it or not.
I put it down to the simplest of terms
Those who believe in the rule of law and those who believe in the rule of man.
Those who support traditional law and order as represented by the Thin Blue Line. There is no privileged class/race that is not subject to the law.
And then there are those who are willing to look the other way as those who because of past injustices may rape, pillage, and destroy the property of others.
Under the rule of man prosecutors can look the other way while one man takes the property of another with out consequences. Under the rule of man, the prosecutor can release a man caught in the act of committing arson on another mans property. Under the rule of man can a prosecutor release a man arrested while assaulting a police officer.
Stupid is and stupid deserves all it will reap.
They took an oath to uphold the law. It doesn’t say “unless the mayor says so”!.
Well, unless you don't wear a mask. Then, they enforce the law. I guess we don't wear body armor and throw bricks at them, so they like harassing citizens.
