A betting favorite has emerged to replace 'Redskins' as the new name for Washington's NFL franchise, but although the alternative is already trademarked, there is some good news for team owner Dan Snyder: He can have it for free. Martin McCaulay, a 61-year-old actuary from Alexandria, Virginia, has been registering alternatives for Washington's football team for the last six years as a bit of a hobby. Among his current trademarks is the name 'Redtails,' which is the top choice being offered by online bookmakers, including BetOnline.ag, which put the odds at 3-to-1. Furthermore, the team's starting quarterback, Dwayne Haskins, has voiced his support for 'Redtails,' the nickname for the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African-American pilots who flew 1,578 combat missions for the US Army Air Forces in World War II en route to three Distinguished Unit Citations.

Fixed it.
It will make it easier for them since they can scribble out skins and replace it with tails. Sharpies you can get at Staples in a six-pack. It is only 57% of the letters so much cheaper than buying a whole new name. It also has the same number of letters so they won’t have to reformat all of their documents and signage. A simple search and replace of skins with tales and voila.
What joke would that be? I am unfamiliar. FReepmail is fine if you want to keep it private.
Washington, F.C.
Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans. Might as well put bar codes on the helmets.
why Red Tails? I thought red was the problem.
If FedEx approves, the new name will be the Washington Redtails.
Its all up to FedEx they write the big checks.
Personal favorites are Potato, or Fore Skins.
To nice for a crap team/ owner.
Im fairly certain that redtail is slang for loose Indian women at least it was in the Western state where I went to college in the 80s.
Really? OMG, that makes this name problematical then.
My question: When are they going after the “Wizards”? There’s some grand connotations there......
How have the Atlanta Braves not been cancelled yet?
I think that the Washington Redtails playing at the Preparation H stadium has a nice ring to it.
I suggest the Washington Red Inks....cause that’s what they’re going to be swimming in.
Surprised “REDCAPS” not suggested.
Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans. Might as well put bar codes on the helmets.
Well, we see with these names, that animal names are still OK, as are geographic references.
There have been some funny threads about sports nicknames here recently. So many team names were said to be offensive, such as Vikings, Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, Saints, Padres, 49ers, 76ers, Patriots, Yankees, Pirates, Raiders, Buccaneers, Brewers.
Someone even said Dallas Cowboys was offensive to real cowboys.
