In 1787, the HMS Bounty set out on a journey that took it through perilous seas to a tropical paradise and into history as one of the most ill-fated vessels ever to sail for King and country. Lewis Milestone (All Quiet on the Western Front) directed this color-drenched spectacular nominated for seven Academy AwardsÒ* including Best Picture. Filmed before in 1935 and again in 1984s The Bounty, the gripping tale, based on a true story, centers on two men. Marlon Brando puts his own stamp on the role of first officer Fletcher Christian, the tormented first mate transformed into a man of action. Trevor Howard is Capt. William Bligh, uncompromising in his command and his cruelty. Fear is [my] best weapon, Bligh proclaims. But its also the most costly, driving men to desperation and to mutiny. Richard Harris, Hugh Griffith and Richard Haydn also star in this epic adventure.

Love Mark!
He did not state his power.
I would suggest that you actually watch the movie or better yet read the books.
He pretty much referred to the power of the citizenry as referenced in the founding document of the United States of America.
That document is not the United States Constitution. It is the Declaration of Independence. Trump pretty much told the State Governors that if the citizenry chose to forcibly remove them then the Federal Government is not going to take the side of the Governors.
Straight up.
Bligh got a bum rap. He was a good naval officer and an outstanding sailor. Rarely has an historical figure been so unjustly maligned.
It's a remarkable story. If you want a good read check it out. It's free on the net.
‘Charles Laughton was the perfect Captain Bligh.’
disagree; Howard was more true to life...Laughton stomped around with a sour look the entire time, but Howard could look completely placid and undisturbed and in an instant take the cruelest action, with the smallest of sardonic satisfaction...Brando, however, was wrong for Fletcher Christian, Mel Gibson was better, though not by much; needed someone who could combined a conflicted mind with sufficient charisma to cause men to follow him...
Trump stated flat out yesterday in his presser that is power was absolute. He did not attempt to qualify it or walk it back in any way. I was personally offended by the statement. Maybe I am not representative of anyone but myself, but I’d hazard a guess that I am not alone.
Gotta agree, what an incredible act of seamenship he performed in that small lifeboat.

2. While President Trumps claim of exclusive power to open the economy raises fundamental federalism issues, why is he under attack by Democrats and the media who could not care less about the 10th amendment, let alone most of the rest of the Bill of a Rights?
I read the entire Bounty trilogy: “Mutiny on the Bounty”. “Men Against the Sea” and “Pitcarins Island.” “Men Against the Sea”, the story of how Bligh and his loyal crew members made it to the Dutch East Indies was the best of the three books.
I figured that’s the one Trump likes, too.
2005 has really stepped up the past week!
Bligh was involved with at least three mutinies, iirc.
One was as a governor in Australia. He was trying to take control back from a group of corrupt officers.
I like how he saved four more of his men later at court martial, who didn’t fit into the launch.
‘Gotta agree, what an incredible act of seamenship he performed in that small lifeboat.’
fortunately for the men in the boat, Bligh was able to determine the most direct route to the nearest land, Timor, I believe it was, based on his cartographic knowledge...also, they were lucky to not be swamped by the storms they experienced...
He is saying all of you were blaming Trump for not acting sooner like he was a King. Then he says he has absolute power and you all say he has none. They just cleared President Trump of anything.
Here's how I see it. Some of these governors, Inslee is one, mostly Democrats, see this as a way to exert power. Now that they have exerted it, they revel in it and don't want to let it go.
Trump sees this and was putting a shot across their bows that continuing with their, in some cases, unconstitutional power grab was going to end. IMHO
Thanks, I read plenty last week!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I'm still digesting this... all 50 States have declared a State of Emergency, so, under the Constitution & the National Emergencies Act, the President has temporary total authority for anything crisis related.
