The great fear for establishment Democrats right now is that he’s *not* starting to collapse, merely beginning to fade. Dem leaders can tolerate Mike Bloomberg beating Bernie for the nomination; they can also tolerate Mike Bloomberg quickly imploding, clearing a path for Biden to win on Saturday and emerge as the great centrist hope against Sanders next week on Super Tuesday.
What they can’t tolerate is a zombie Bloomberg candidacy, one where Bloomy pulls enough votes away from Biden to hold Joe down but not enough to threaten Sanders himself. More than anything else, they need to resolve the so-called “muddle in the middle” immediately. And since Bloomberg’s debate performance last night was neither great nor terrible, it’s unlikely they’ll get that.

yes-it is probably all over but the shouting.Since 1952, (other than 1968 when LJB withdrew after Iowa and New Hampshire and his VP got nomination), I don’t see a nominee of either party who didn’t come in at least 1st or 2nd in either Iowa or New Hampshire. So if this holds its probably Sanders.
e.g. Reagan came in 2nd to Bush in 1980 in Iowa but won New Hampshire . In Iowa, 1992 with an Iowa Dem Senator running, and sex scandals breaking Bill Clinton finished 3rd or 4th if you count uncommitted, but finished 2nd in New Hampshire. McCain came in a close 4th in Iowa in 2008 and won New Hampshire , these are the poorest finishers I have found and note they each came in either 1st or 2nd in one of the two.
Blomberg introduces something new and that is $1 billion but after his bad debate performance(s) it will cost him another $400 million. Biden might win SC and defy history because the country has higher % “people of color” in other states but I don’t think so.
We probably want them to hang in there as long as they can so they use up their $s and attack each other and not Trump

None of the candidates can beat President Trump; in the meantime, we can snicker, and invest in the makers of stomach acid remedies. ;^)

Bernie is certainly not a Democrat. But he signed a loyal pledge with the DNC last year. So the DNC lets him run as a Democrat. That was a really dumb move in the DNC’s part, but it’s too late now.

The DNC is just another wholly owned subsidiary of Bloomberg Inc. He bought it for $2bln.
