An Open Letter From Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders to President Trump (Re: Julian Assange)

An open Letter to Donald Trump, President of the United States

Dear Mr. President,

I often think of how much my father, Melville “Bud” Hynde, who proudly served his country as a Marine on Guadalcanal, would have enjoyed your Presidency. The other day when you gave that award to Rush Limbaugh, my father would have been so delighted. He loved listening to Rush, which is why I allowed my song, 'My City Was Gone', to be used on his radio show.

My father and I didn't always see eye-to-eye. We argued a lot, but isn’t that the American way? The right to disagree without having your head chopped off?

Soon, I will be participating in a protest in London against the extradition of Julian Assange. I know my father would be mortified, but I feel strongly enough to do what I believe is the right thing; to protest further punishment of a man who sought to defend Freedom, albeit in a way you rightly disagree with.

I know Mr. Assange broke the law (as i have done defending the treatment of animals) but I believe he has been duly punished and should now be set free.

Please consider my plea.

Yours truly,

Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders

If Julian Assange would tell how he got the emails, I’m sure he would consider it.

I think his charges have to do with the way he manipulated Bradley Manning to steal more classified documents. Regardless of whether he has been punished enough, he has to come back to face the charges. I don’t believe they should be dropped. During sentencing, they can sort out punishment.

Pretty reasonable. And a decent argument can be made that Wikileaks exposing the Clinton crime, the pizzagate molester ring, her public and private position statement, etc helped Trump in a big way.

free Assange

I don’t see this song as some leftest dribble. I could certainly say the same about mine, Detroit. Most rust belt city’s dig go. They went to Mexico or China. Here are the lyrics from some lyric website. For those who for whatever reason are unable to listen for more than a few seconds, have at it.

“My City Was Gone”

I went back to Ohio
But my city was gone
There was no train station
There was no downtown
South Howard had disappeared
All my favorite places
My city had been pulled down
Reduced to parking spaces
Ay, oh, way to go, Ohio

Well, I went back to Ohio
But my family was gone
I stood on the back porch
There was nobody home
I was stunned and amazed
My childhood memories
Slowly swirled past
Like the wind through the trees
Ay, oh, way to go, Ohio

I went back to Ohio
But my pretty countryside
Had been paved down the middle
By a government that had no pride
The farms of Ohio
Had been replaced by shopping malls
And Muzak filled the air
From Seneca to Cuyahoga Falls
Said, ay, oh, way to go, Ohio

My dad served in the Navy in WWII. He enlisted in 1942.

I’m not within 20 years of 87.

You don’t seem to like her, but you also don’t seem to know too much about her.

I will give her to this: she spoke more respectfully to President Trump than 95% of the entertainers who have national recognition.

I noticed anti-Trump Arnold Schwarzenegger also tweeted out a compliment to the President this week, and DJT responded in kind.

Things that make you go hmmm.

Indeed, and his punishment has been ongoing.

To the letter, very well written, warm and wonderfully polite.
Brings back memories of a time when people could engage in civil discourse.

God willing we return to that.

Don’t do it. If you appreciate Pink Floyd, don’t.

Don’t.

I used to love music by Pink Floyd. I listened to their music all the time.

Back in 2004, I went to a Roger Waters concert. I was in a large group of 10-15 people, all good friends.

In retrospect, I should have seen what was coming, but...I didn’t.

It turned into a 3 hour political audiovisual tirade against Bush, conservatives and Israel, with some music mixed in. It looked like Code Pink put together the slide and video shows they had going on. It was a typical Leftist multimedia session.

I didn’t want to ruin the evening for the people I went with, but I was steaming mad. I grit my teeth and sat there. At the end of the “concert”, they released a 40 foot high ballon of a pig with “F*ck Bush” on one side and “Vote Democrat” on the other. (I think he was taken to court by the state for that, releasing that huge balloon)

I have been unable to listen to any Pink Floyd music since then. It STILL pisses me off.

As for this letter from Ms. Hyndes, I kind of liked it. She comes across as a Liberal, and not a Leftist. (I feel there is hope for some Liberals. There is little or no hope for Leftists.)

I thought it was a very polite letter.

Yes. See my post above. Ruined Pink Floyd for me.

Rush talked about how she didn’t want him to use her song for opening of his show but that her parents loved Rush so she was ok with it!

She makes some amount of money eveyr time her song is played. After 31 years, that amounts to a nice piec e of change.

His solo music (including the awful The Final Cut, which was PFINO) is so bitter and angry it’s pathetic. Rog, you’re a rich dude with your health and a loving family. You’re ahead in the game of life. Way ahead. So cheer the **** up.

But, on The Final Cut, this man of peace invited Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher into a gas chamber bearing his father’s name. A lot of people lost their fathers in WWII, Rog. Get over yourself. I refuse to own that album.

Sigh. I try not to be resentful and angry, because like that old saying about resentfulness and anger are more corrosive to the container that carries it, but I haven’t quite been able to get over it.

I tried going back and listening to Pink Floyd, but it is like watching the Naked Gun movies and seeing OJ Simpson yukking it up in them.

Bottom line, Roger Waters is the worst kind of human scum, a leftist human scum, and that is how he will be remembered by many.
