An Open Letter From Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders to President Trump (Re: Julian Assange)

An open Letter to Donald Trump, President of the United States

Dear Mr. President,

I often think of how much my father, Melville “Bud” Hynde, who proudly served his country as a Marine on Guadalcanal, would have enjoyed your Presidency. The other day when you gave that award to Rush Limbaugh, my father would have been so delighted. He loved listening to Rush, which is why I allowed my song, 'My City Was Gone', to be used on his radio show.

My father and I didn't always see eye-to-eye. We argued a lot, but isn’t that the American way? The right to disagree without having your head chopped off?

Soon, I will be participating in a protest in London against the extradition of Julian Assange. I know my father would be mortified, but I feel strongly enough to do what I believe is the right thing; to protest further punishment of a man who sought to defend Freedom, albeit in a way you rightly disagree with.

I know Mr. Assange broke the law (as i have done defending the treatment of animals) but I believe he has been duly punished and should now be set free.

Please consider my plea.

Yours truly,

Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders

Thoughts about Ms. Hynde's comments?

Also, I'm thinking about going to the Roger Waters (Pink Floyd) concert on 7/30, but I'm not sure I can stomach his politics. He's a vile Anti-Semite, yet I do enjoy his music. Thoughts?

I don’t see any difference between what Julian did and what the Washington Compost did with the Pentagon Papers, and none of them went to jail.

Very civil (but, then, she is asking a favor). Like the way she talks about her dad.

I am a bit surprised a rock star/celebrity can write a letter so measured in tone.

Disclaimer: I always liked the Pretenders during their few years of fame.

She started out pretty, but became and stayed harsh looking.

Nice polite letter. Wish more people could discuss their ideas so politely.

I suspect Ms. Hynde enjoyed the royalties from Limbaugh as much as she did pleasing her father.

As for Assange, maybe ping her to the Q thread over here; Julian is painted as a good guy in a lot of the Q stuff.

As for Waters, I like his music as much as the next guy, but I wouldn’t give another penny to his hypocrite politics.

I have no grief with cutting Assange a break.

As for Waters, that’s up to you. I’ll watch movies or listen to music that are made by ardent Trump haters, but I have no interest in Waters because I’m burnt out on Pink Floyd. I used to like their music, but I’ve heard it all enough. I still like Brick in the Wall, but that’s about it.

If you go the the concert in July, please feel free to write a review .

At least Chrissie made her plea in a sane and rational manner.

If you don’t want to support Roger Waters financially, you may be able to watch current concerts for free on YouTube at some point.

Certainly seems civil. She’s wrong, but she’s not obnoxious about it.At least not in this letter.

Hers is a reasoned argument that some may disagree with, but she acknowledges there are two sides.

Roger Waters, on the other hand is just vile. I barely listen to his music anymore.

I thought the left was against Julian Assange for leaking dnc emails during the 2016 election.

She’s far from a total moonbat and actually agrees with and admires some aspects of American conservatism, so her daddy raised her right and she’s no enemy.

We all know or should know that Assange is getting a pretty raw deal, too. He’s not an American citizen, not subject to our jurisdiction. So he released some purportedly hacked emails, from a hidden illegal server by the way.

What else is it that he’s done, to warrant having to hide out in an embassy for years?

Pardon him.

If Trump frees Julian Assange both of their lives will be in great danger.

Although I’m not an expert in such matters it’s hard for me to imagine her getting huge $$$ from Rush.

Last time I heard about her speaking out was shortly after the U.S. started bombing Afghanistan in October 2001. At a concert, she shouted “I hope the Muslims win”.

I did not know that her father loves Rush and played into her decision to allow her song to become his theme.

I wonder if Rush knows this?

I never heard him talk about it.

Decent letter.

I remember the days when it seemed like it would be a problem for Rush to continue using her song. Then it came out that her parents loved Rush, and it eventually worked itself out.
