The magazine came out before the first primary was even held. Trump has turned out very well, but that wasn’t at all clear at the beginning of 2016. People were rightly scared about electing somebody who had never held public office before.

William F. Buckley would be sad to see his magazine... He wrote the 11th Commandment...

[I think of the authors on that cover, the following are now NOT #NeverTrumpers and have realized their mistakes:
Andrew McCarthy
Cal Thomas
Glenn Beck
Katie Pavlich
L. Brent Bozell III]
They thought Trump was a liberal to the left of Hillary. As it turns out, Trump is liberal on some things, but broadly right-wing, and far more conservative than Hillary. What stinks is the National Review people who have seen fit to virtue-signal over the relative specks in Trump’s deviation from conservative orthodoxy, in view of the Democratic inquisition/Deep State coup attempt. I don’t agree with Trump on everything, but I’m not going to ding him when he’s under siege. The National Review’s autism on this subject is mind-boggling.

I heard that. I kept seeing all these stories on FR freaking out that Trump donated to this or that Democrap politician. I tried to explain to people that when you’re doing business on the level that Trump was, you donate to BOTH candidates. Then no matter who wins, you can tell them when you meet them, “Hey, I donated to your campaign, congrats!” Like it or not, that’s business. Even if Trump was a sometimes-conservative like Bush or bored and not really present in his job like Bob Dole, would you rather have Hillary?! I came around FR a lot less often, too. In the last few years, I feel like FR has declined, there’s a lot of liberal-like behavior (people being very un-civil), and weird conspiracy-theorists have taken root. There’s also a population of people that have been users since about 2000 that seem to be above the rules and don’t get suspended or banned by their poor behavior. I particularly get sick of people claiming to know something about the military when they never served, wouldn’t condescend to set foot in a govt. office, and have zero idea what kind of manning or resources that it takes to run a weapon system but they’re more than happy to tell you how it is.
