Can moderators be fair having called Trump a 'witless ape'?

When Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus "suspended" the party's agreement to hold a debate with NBC on February 26, he took care to say that whether or not NBC was involved, the debate, which was set to include questions from partner National Review, would go on as scheduled.

"While we are suspending our partnership with NBC News and its properties, we still fully intend to have a debate on that day, and will ensure that National Review remains part of it," Priebus wrote in a letter to NBC.

As the debate approaches, however, it's likely that critics will raise questions about the participation of National Review, the venerable conservative publication, because of a number of comments made by its writers and editors about Donald Trump. (I should put in a disclaimer high in the story: I worked for National Review from 2001 to 2009 and know, like and respect many of the people involved in this matter.)

To put it mildly, a lot of NR writers don't like Trump.

For example, on June 16, when Trump announced his candidacy, NR roving correspondent Kevin D. Williamson analyzed the event in a piece headlined "Witless Ape Rides Escalator." Williamson called Trump "the most ridiculous buffoon with the worst taste since Caligula." Also: 'a reality-television grotesque with his plastic-surgery-disaster wife, grunting like a baboon about our country's 'brand' and his own vast wealth." And: "not just an ass, but an ass of exceptionally intense asininity." And, of course, a "witless ape."

If MSNBC can maintain its credibility after one of its hosts called Ben Carson a “safe negro” then the moderators of the debates can.......wait a minute......I’m not sure the math works.

Prince Rebus.

What has happened to NR since WFB’s passing is a crime.

Good thing they didn’t call Dr. Carson that.

Unless aggressively handled, eventually the left creeps into everything.

Libertarian philosopher David Gordon criticizes Williamson’s “The Politically Incorrect Guide to Socialism” in his piece, “Williamson’s Howlers”:

“Williamson lacks the ability to report facts accurately and his work contains preposterous errors.”

You can read David Gordon’s piece from the “Mises Wire” here:

https://mises.org/blog/williamsons-howlers

Good stuff on the nuances of Socialism that Williamson does not get.

As Chris Plante said, if you take all the vowels from Reince Pribus’ name you get:

RNC PR BS

“Good thing they didn’t call Dr. Carson that.”

It wouldn’t matter. He is a house nnegro, an Uncle Tom, not authentically black. Now, to call Obama that, well, that would be racist.

Those so-called "journalists" lack the wit to understand that Donald Trump has already achieved more than they could dream to, or long for, even in their wildest, fondest, most self-indulgent dreams, or that his intellect towers over theirs.

Those who think he's a "Witless Ape" and "the most ridiculous buffoon with the worst taste since Caligula" are projecting. Their language and imagery confirm it.

They referred to Lincoln the same way. Didn’t do them any good then, won’t do any good now.

No, Williamson obviously cannot be fair. These comments are too extreme, show his biased mindset and ignorance. A long time ago we used to subscribe to National Review. I didn’t realize it has turned this far to the left.

Calling him “the most ridiculous buffoon with the worst taste since Caligula” just reveals their ignorance of history. They are totally ignoring the emperors Commodus and Elagabalus.

I was so done with National Review during the 2008 election, I stopped subscribing and have never looked back. They are ignoramuses. Every cover, and I mean every cover they did during that election was a drawing or photo of Obama. There were barely any substantive articles about McCain's campaign, conservatism, Buckleyism or anything else that would have helped stave off the usurpation of our nation. All of them apparently failed Marketing 101.

NR has gone left since Lowry took over in about ‘98, but really got useless after Buckley died in 2008.

Odd thing about conservative media; in capitalist fashion, they are for sale every generation.
