A little earlier today, Nancy Pelosi decided that more of the Schiff-show was not going to be helpful and she directed various House committees to proceed with drafting articles of impeachment against President Trump.

It is pretty obvious that this hurried decision to move straight on to drafting articles of impeachment is a direct result of the issue being a non-seller basically everywhere. While is is giving the left a thrill up their whatever, it is locking in Republican support for Trump and moderates are seeing it as a distraction and a political hit on the President. Support for impeachment hit the high tide mark weeks ago and is slowly receding. This is not to say that it will ever go away but it will only be popular among Bulwark contributors and others who have a pathological hatred of President Trump.
The Democrats should tread warily here. Mitch McConnell is not going to take the easy way out and simply call a vote to dismiss the charges…though he could. He’s said he will go through with a trial. And McConnell will set the rules (the Chief Justice presides but the rules are made by the majority). The odds of him refusing to let the President call witnesses to demonstrate that his request of Ukraine President Zelensky was valid approach zero. The odds of Adam Schiff not being called if the President’s defense team wants it also approaches zero. Biden has already said he will not:

That’s fine and that is what President Trump is hoping for.
As the left says, when they aren’t saying something completely different, this is a political, not a judicial process. The imagery of the President’s team claiming that this is all a sham and Democrats witnesses refusing to testify will make the case for dismissal in the most epic way possible.
If this goes to the Senate, neither McConnell or Trump have any interest in not discrediting the Democrats and the process. And it is difficult to see them passing up this opportunity.

The dems decided to impeach Trump the moment Trump was declared winner of the election. They have been full of hate since that time. From yelling at the moon, to trashing Gorsuch and Kavanaugh. They are willing to do anything at all, no matter how mean or violent, to get rid of Trump. Is it because Trump is improving job opportunities for minorities? Is it because he loves this country and doesn’t want it destroyed in a wave of allahu akhbars? Or is it because of abortion? That’s the one! Nothing motivates their evil minds as much as the “right” to kill babies who haven’t cried or pooped yet.

I think a defining difference about trump is, you and I know he isn’t going to be convicted in the senate. But he doesn’t care he takes on every opponent that dares to challenge him in an unfair way. Hes not going to take this lightly though I think he will listen to some expert advice, he will want to bring them in to court, put them all on the stand and ask the questions they do not want to be asked in front of the country. I also believe that although his advisors will tell him not to do it, Trump will want to testify before the country.
The only thing left for Nancy is to claim health issues and retire quickly.
I am still hanging way out here on my limb, with few others accompanying me. There will be no Senate Trial as the House will not vote for Impeachment. This will drag on for a couple more weeks and the House will then vote to Censure the President making the trial likelihood moot.
Of course this is just my most humble opinion.

Not so sure about that, you are leaving the DoJ out of the equation. Trump might not need the Senate “to investigate anything Trump wants.”But IMHO McConnell can and certainly will call a lot of witnesses germane to the impeachment articles - and exceedingly embarrassing to the Democrats.
Not a chance. That is Conservative porn fantasy. Just who would dare charge members of Congress? Barr? Lol! He wouldn’t even charge Comey and McCabe after that worthless twit Horowitz recommended prosecuting them. Moreover, members of Congress have complete immunity via the Speech or Debate Clause, with the only exceptions being “Treason, Felony, or Breach of Peace.” No one will charge them; they are elites and the DOJ is hopelessly corrupt itself.
While it is encouraging to hear Trump wants to bring them before the star chamber as well, nothing here is a slam dunk. This is a high-stakes gambling no matter what anyone says. It could all go south a few seconds of political theater, or via biased rulings from Justice Roberts.

Health issues alright. The vile, demonic Botoxian is now painted into a corner that it can’t get out of. The Grim Reaper is also knocking on it’s door, to deliver a quick one-way trip back to “Big Daddy” in hell....and it knows it. The sooner, the better for the USA.
I would love to see Zelensky show up at the trial as a witness without the democrats knowing about it.
5th Amendment. Plus, he’ll go big with “I’m not playing Trump’s game, how dare he attack my family, etc., etc. But when it comes down to it, the only way that he won’t testify is by relying upon the 5th.
Of course, most people will look at that as “Why won’t he testify if he has nothing to worry about? Why can’t he rag on Trump when a Dem is cross-examining him?”

I lean toward that opinion myself - notwithstanding the extent to which people I respect claim the Democrats cannot keep from voting to impeach. The Dems have a lot to lose if they do - but also if they don’t.We’re living in interesting political times. Trump conducted a hostile takeover of the Republican Party, and is making a serious bid to draw a significant minority of black voters to it.
Democrats’ identity politics look to be hitting the wall, you can only promise so much to so many for so long without delivering. We’ve had a black POTUS, but right now it looks like a real fight brewing over which faction gets paid off with a presidential nomination in ’20.
And altho Duval Patrick is still in the Democrat race, it looks like the Dem candidate won’t be a governor - and (altho there’s a first time for everything) no sitting POTUS has ever been defeated for reelection by an opponent who’d never been a governor.
If the Democrats get blown out in ’20 after a divisive convention, there could be serious calls for a “third party” among them.
