A little earlier today, Nancy Pelosi decided that more of the Schiff-show was not going to be helpful and she directed various House committees to proceed with drafting articles of impeachment against President Trump.
The White House issued its official response:

It is pretty obvious that this hurried decision to move straight on to drafting articles of impeachment is a direct result of the issue being a non-seller basically everywhere. While is is giving the left a thrill up their whatever, it is locking in Republican support for Trump and moderates are seeing it as a distraction and a political hit on the President. Support for impeachment hit the high tide mark weeks ago and is slowly receding. This is not to say that it will ever go away but it will only be popular among Bulwark contributors and others who have a pathological hatred of President Trump.
The Democrats should tread warily here. Mitch McConnell is not going to take the easy way out and simply call a vote to dismiss the charges…though he could. He’s said he will go through with a trial. And McConnell will set the rules (the Chief Justice presides but the rules are made by the majority). The odds of him refusing to let the President call witnesses to demonstrate that his request of Ukraine President Zelensky was valid approach zero. The odds of Adam Schiff not being called if the President’s defense team wants it also approaches zero. Biden has already said he will not:

That’s fine and that is what President Trump is hoping for.
As the left says, when they aren’t saying something completely different, this is a political, not a judicial process. The imagery of the President’s team claiming that this is all a sham and Democrats witnesses refusing to testify will make the case for dismissal in the most epic way possible.
If this goes to the Senate, neither McConnell or Trump have any interest in not discrediting the Democrats and the process. And it is difficult to see them passing up this opportunity.
I sure hope Trump firmly believes he has the GOP on his side in the Senate because I sure as hell don’t.

I don’t trust them as far as I can throw them.
mcconnell will never alow Trump to expose the deep state in a senate trial. mcconnell will limit Trump’s defense to the actual articles of impeachment. He will not allow Trump to investigate anything Trump wants. The goal here is to damage Trump’s chances in the 2020 elections.

But I’ll tell you what will happen the cowardly republicans will not have the nerve to call him I hope that Trump has the right to directly call witnesses.

It doesn’t have to work that way the house chose not to enforce some of those subpoenas in court, trump would ask the chief Justice on the spot to enforce the subpoena which a trial judge has an absolute right to do, or force trump to file that request with a district court. No matter what, a court would decide the issue and order Biden testify.
In the middle of the trial I would see no reason for the issue to go anywhere but to the presiding judge which would be John Roberts.
We’re talking Trump here. If he’s put into a corner the man won’t be passive like W. He’ll fight and we’ll reach that moment when the fhit hits the shan. Trump knows he’s being falsely accused and he’ll destroy them all, including the Republicans. We haven’t seen nothing yet.

The cowardice of the republicans is the only real problem that trump will face. If you recall, they were frightened by the media and democrats so that no witnesses were called in any real trial against Clinton. But this would be different because the president would be asking for witnesses to defend himself. I do wonder whether members of Congress like Pelosi can be charged with perjury for lying while before the senate. You can be certain that witnesses like Biden, Pelosi, and many others will lie and evade every question. Again, the problem is the senate has very few strong individuals.

I’ve never been to our nation’s capital. I think a trip there is in my future. Maybe others will want to visit, also...
I guess he can take the 5th Amendment. The old criminal fool is such a criminal...as is his extended family.
