Here it is, the second Monday in October which means it’s once again Columbus Day, that most contentious of holidays. Columbus Day has unofficially been celebrated since 1792 and has been a national holiday since 1934. Ever since the late 70s there has been a move afoot to “take back the holiday” from the evil white privileged supremacist and celebrate instead those perfectly formed, innocent and peaceful Indigenous Peoples who discovered corn.
Naturally California and universities were the first to embrace this politically correct change, alleging that the man who literally changed the world did so with malice aforethought. We are to believe that Christopher Columbus – who sailed forth into a void that many believed was the edge of the world that he would fall to his death from - in search of the Orient (also no longer politically correct and I don’t even know why) with genocide in his heart. Upon discovering the Americas by accident he set about the intentional destruction of the indigenous peoples. If you doubt for one moment that this is the way history is now taught read the comments on any article about changing the name of the holiday: the little trained rats queue up to share their indoctrinated view of the hateful Christopher Columbus.
Accordingly today’s Google doodle is dedicated not to explorer Christopher Columbus, the man who volunteered to sail off the edge of the world in order to prove it was round and inadvertently ran into the Americas, but rather to Belgian physicist Joseph Antoine Ferdinand Plateau on the occasion of his 218th birth anniversary. This prescient tech giant invented the phenakistiscope, a device that led to the onset of cinema by creating the illusion of moving images. I note that we don’t blame him for the likes of Heaven's Gate, Gigli and Loqueesha.

My parents worked for the federal Gov't, and it was the one day, when I would walk home from school, and they were at the house.
Most often, my father would be prepping the house for winter (caulking windows, etc) and mom would be cooking raisin cake.
I have very few distinct memories of coming home from elementary school, but because of this holiday, I do have memories.

Irrespective of Columbus I love how the proponents of this crap try to pretend that so called ‘indigenous people’ were really happy-go-lucky glorified hippies of the day just love, peace and happiness! Which of course is a big lie and also shows the true anti-West, anti-white and anti-Christian agenda.
Another “EVIL” thing Columbus managed to do is actually connected to our day.
Christopher Columbus had the unmitigated nerve to CHALLENGE “SETTLED SCIENCE” when he sailed off toward the “Edge of the FLAT EARTH”. Only He and a couple of others were “foolish” enough to challenge what the great(?) minds of the day “KNEW for a FACT.”
The Nina, the Pina and the Santa Maria were named after women and Christopher used these small and by today’s safety standards dangerous craft across the Atlantic’s uncharted waters.
He discovers for all intents and purposes “America” from the European Historical perspective.
Europe’s long established laws applied to the lands as countries guided by the Dutch pilots - The Netherlands, England, France, and Spain laid claim to different parts of North America; in the Central and South American lands it was the Spanish, Portuguese, French, Dutch and English that populated these lands with Slaves and other legal people categories....
Hooray for Christopher Columbus!
When Columbus landed on an island in the Bahamas on October 12, 1492, all the Indian people who greeted him were walking around stark naked. They produced virtually nothing on their own.
The natives were pre-historic primitives living in huts. Aside from hunting and fishing and perhaps farming they had virtually no skills. Indigenous people around the globe lived like this.
Europe represented the height of civilization. Spain, in particularly, had driven out the Moors (the Muslims) who had conquered their lands.
It was a glorious day for the world.
Spain and Portugal would go on to colonize and civilize all of Latin America, while England and France would do the same in North America.
This insured the spread of Christianity both in the New World (and also the Far East and Africa). This simultaneous spread of Christianity and civilization acted as a bulwark against the expansionist primitive savagery of Islam which had spread by the sword.
Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain rejected the idea of slavery in their colonies and considered its inhabitants part of Spain. It was a big step forward for all humankind. Islam, wherever it advanced, spread slavery.
Widespread death from disease was a horribly unfortunately side effect but certainly not intended as such.
To make the case that Europeans set out to decimate native populations is a deliberate smear. It defames the courageous and brilliant explorers who discovered the New World.
I for one will celebrate with vigor Columbus Day this year and every year.
Myth: Columbus was sailing to prove the world was round.
Everyone in Columbus’s time knew the earth was a sphere. This fact was known since antiquity (among the ancient Greeks, for example). Scholars disagreed about its size. Based on the known world, Columbus underestimated it by one fourth.
In the late nineteenth century, enemies of Christianity spread the lie that medieval men believed in a flat earth. They claimed that because people in Columbus’s time were religious, they were therefore crude and ignorant. These enemies wanted to discredit the Church by portraying it as the enemy of science. But Christopher Columbus, a deeply religious man, would be the first to disagree.
And if Columbus had never sailed, the New World would still have been found in 1500 by Pedro Álvares Cabral.
The time was right for discovery, and because the tribal “civilizations” were still 5000 years behind the Old World does not give the “Indigenous Peoples” a cause to gripe.
In 30 years, we will have zero holidays. Liberals will get rid of Christians, thanksgiving, Columbus Day, Flag Day and Fourth of July. Fake Christians will get rid of Labor Day, May Day and halloween, among others. We’re screwed by two idiotic groups destroying our country.
One does not tear things down, whether it be statues or holidays or beliefs.
Life is additive, life is fruitful.
Add in new holidays, new statues, new rites and rituals to represent the now.
If the old gods and old ways die, so be it.
Do not push the river.

Then taxpayers dollars will be saved and used properly because of it. I don’t have a problem with federal holidays per se, but the retailers are still working the Everyman the blue collars are still working but the federal employees get all these days off and we’re still paying them with tax dollars and we’re still paying for the infrastructure that house these federal workers with tax dollars.
Why shouldn’t the Federal employee expect to work the same amount of time per year as non-federal employee’s?
Federal holidays don’t stick to the basics, and IMHO the basics would be Memorial Day, Veterans day and Independence Day.
The religious holidays are just that & since there myriad of “sanctioned” religions that are now considered by congress to be congruent to this conversation or definition, perhaps a position should be recognized that if one practices or subscribes to one of those religions they should take vacation days and observe them as they see fit by choice.
