Dr. Drew Pinsky, a California-based physician who now hosts a talk radio show, correctly predicted the current typhus outbreak in Los Angeles about 18 months ago. Now he is sounding the alarm about a potential outbreak of the bubonic plague in the Los Angeles area, saying that unless conditions change quickly and drastically, Southern California will be dealing with a horrific epidemic.
The last outbreak of the bubonic plague, ironically, was in the 1920s in Los Angeles. Yersinia pestis, the organism that causes the plague, is endemic to the valleys Southern California and comes down through the foothills on squirrels and raccoons, Pinsky explained to Scott Adams on a Thursday podcast.
[Then] It gets into the rats. When the rats proliferate, it gets into the humans. And we now have somewhere between 12 and 20 million rats in Los Angeles, and were one of the only cities in the country with no rodent control program.
If you look at the pictures of Los Angeles youll see that the homeless encampments are surrounded by dumps. People defecate there, they throw their trash there, and the rats just proliferate there.
The last outbreak was in the 1920s. It was only because of some heroic efforts by a group of physicians that it didnt become a massive problem. It killed everyone who came in contact with the case zero.
With the sheer volume of people now in Los Angeles, compared to 100 years ago, this is a terrifying prospect.
Downtown Los Angeles is now infamous for its trash piles, and while those are definitely part of the problem, Pinsky said the homelessness issue is the main driver of the potential disease outbreaks. Pinsky, who has worked as a physician at psychiatric hospitals, believes the homelessness issue has been caused by an inability to properly treat the chronically mentally ill and drug addicts. The people in this population, he asserts, will not voluntarily take up offers of housing.
14th century problem. They didn’t have antibiotics though.
Bring out your dead...
Before my time but I think I would have liked it there.
I used to think that when criseses get out of control the”authorities” will fix the situation. Not anymore. California especially has lost its validity of being a State that can prevent disasters from happening. What has happened is devolution into complete corruption of the system and moral conviction. The ultimate result is a hybrid system of a facade of government and quasi anarchy with no one having the courage to face it no less actually doing anything about solving anything. Truly an End of the Age scenario.
No sympathy whatsoever: Their actions, their policies brought this upon themselves.
They are simply reaping what they have intentionally sowed.
Ashes to ashes
All fall down.
There was 3 of us. We were supposed to go get our immunizations updated before we could go on R&R. One of the immunizations was for plague. The vaccine was defective and we got the plague. None of the Army doctors at the hospital had ever seen a case of plague before, so they gave us penicillin. We didn’t respond to penicillin and by the end of the 1st week, a hospital corpsman going through our medical records noticed the recent immunizations and put 2-and-2 together. After that they gave us the correct meds, streptomycin and we began to get better. It was 24 days before any of us was released from the hospital.
And yes, small patches of our skin did turn black. There was also the massive painful swelling of our lymph nodes, especially the buboes which swelled to the size of oranges.
Queue up the MOAB from “Outbreak.”
I know a woman in the LA area, known her since we were kids.
Lives in a beautiful home. Very attractive woman. Just beautiful to look at, and very sweet person.
I found out one of these nuts broke into her house and held her captive for a day, raping her, roughing her up. Its been a few years and she is still affected.
Either people will elect someone to fix this or move out. I dont see them fixing it. Those that stay are in for a very rude awakening.
Better still I think 2 million degrees centigrade will wipe it out. B61 to rescue.
If you’re not going to clean the poop off the sidewalks, things happen.
She needs to move. For her own outlook on life.
The rats here in Southern California are the same species of rat that carried the bubonic plague in Europe. They love the dead fronds hanging from the trunks of palm trees that provide a habitat similar to the thatched roofs of medieval European houses.
Just wall it off so it doesn’t spread out of Mexifornia & we’ll be good
It’s really weird that we’re living in a hybrid form of “Escape from LA” and “Gattica.” I’d always thought these types of movies impossible. Often fairly lame. And here we are.
Yes it is but they get what they deserve, IMO. I hope all of the good conservatives get out for awhile and then once the dust has settled, go back, clean it up and make a change for the better. The only problem is these idiots tend to travel about and they can spread it.
It probably wont get out to Malibu. Their rats probably get vaccinated.
Yeah that’d be the ideal way to deal with it but if the way the Dems/Communists dealt with Ebola is any indication they’ll just put plague victims on planes and send them to small conservative towns all across America. Biological warfare against the racist white privileged. Just you watch.
And by "isolate," you would have to mean "imprison." These "proud homeless" don't take well to being isolated or cooped up anywhere. Say what you will, they enjoy their freedom, and they despise authority.
Hubby has a cousin who speaks very little. He’s just quiet. We were coming back from San Diego, stuck on the 405, barely moving, and I hear from the back seat....what LA needs is a good plague. Thought I would die laughing. This was 15 or so years ago.
