China has recalled two cute giant pandas from a popular zoo in the US amid the countries' ongoing trade war.
Bai Yun, 26, and her six-year-old cub Xiao Liwu are iconic images of San Diego Zoo in California.
Bai Yun has spent more than 20 years at the attraction after arriving as a tiny cub. She has aided important worldwide research in the protection, breeding, disease control of giant pandas.
But both majestic animals have been sent back to their native China after the country scrapped its conservation loan agreement with the US.

The zoos are saving themselves $1m per panda per year in rent. And the really high cost of their upkeep, which will now be borne by the Chinese budget. Of course, it’s also possible panda bear paws will mysteriously appear as a one time only special on a menu at some favored restaurant in Beijing. Or as an entree at Xi Jinping’s dinner table. Bottom line is pandas are unprofitable for US zoos because both the rent and upkeep costs are sky high so it’s no big loss, except for China which will now lose the rental income *and* keep the pandas happy.

Sounds like six-year-old cub Xiao Liwu being born here creates some sort of citizen status just like the Chinese women coming here to give birth.
Them pandas are Americans now according to our crappy laws.
I quit going to zoos decades ago. The animals reminded me of inmates, and I felt very sad for them.
The Chinese love their Pandas. I wonder if the Pandas will miss their zookeepers.
The zoos are saving $1m per year per panda. And the food cost per panda is $500k. Think of pandas as part of the US trade deficit. Only a few hundred million bucks in total at worst, but why subsidize the Chinese government?
The new zoo enclosures are massive. Problem is the animals are shy, and being able to see them can be hit or miss. The animals are probably happier, but the patrons shelling out $20 a ticket might not be.
When people in a relationship argue there are certain things that cause permanent damage to the relationship. This feels like the Chinese are on the path to creating permanent damage to the relationship.
Looking at the issue from a different perspective, trade with China is a relatively small and ultimately replaceable part of the US’ economy. But, if I recall the numbers, US trade represents a much higher percentage of the Chinese GDP. Also the overheated bubble that China is in places their economy at greater risk. They would be much better served by adopting magnanimity and appearing reasonable. Also, they could offer incentives regarding efforts towards North Korea or agree to a pause or reduction in Naval ship building. They have more cards to play if they consider their whole hand. But, it appears they have run away with emotion.

Let’s ban ALL imports from China and see what happens. Short term pain for long term gain. Taiwan,Vietnam, and assorted other Asian countries can make up for the loss of production. China needs the USA more than the USA needs China by far.

Underneath their facades, many commies, particularly our domestic variety,are brittle, humorless little sissies. Give them a little taste of reality and show themselves to be humorless, stupid little sissies.
Over the last 4 decades, OUR stupid and often treasonous foreign policy establishment [FPE] gave away the store to the Ching Chong Chicoms. The only thing the brought to the table was an endless supply of slave labor. Our wizard quisling FPE routinely structured the trade arrangements with the chicoms as adhesion agreeements, thus rendering, over time, the American middle class an economic nullity. America's formerly proud and independent engine of wealth creation, its middle class, was essentially cashiered. Does any thoughtful American citizen believe that the Kenyanian obscenity, or the dry drunk from Crawford,TX, or the corrupt US Congress, gave a damn about the main result of trading with a murderous thug regime? Not. So give the Chicoms their Pandas. And jack our tariffs on all of their junk until they HOWL. And if they think they can make their own slave workers eat our tariffs, ask them if they know how to spell quotas.
