Niacin might help.

Almost 20 years ago my brother had radiotherapy for cancer in his neck. The cancer was cured, but he was left with two long-lasting side effects. One was a bald spot. The other was progressive inflammation on his retina on the radiated side, gradually leading to a loss of 40% of the visual field in that eye.

Around the beginning of this year he began using megadoses of niacin, mainly to prevent COVID. Two or three months in, he visited his haircutter of 15 years, and she asked him, "Did you get implants?" Apparently due to the improved circulation due to niacin, his bald spot had grown back in.

Soon after, he noticed that his vision was getting better, and his opthalmologist confirmed that not only was his vision nearly back to 100% but the clear signs of inflammation and capillary blockage on his retina had almost completely disappeared -- almost 20 years after his original radiation injury.

Niacin has multiple important systemic effects. First, it opens up your blood vessels so that the blood flows through like a fire hose, improving both oxygenation and nutrition of the cells. Second, it reduces inflammation and removes the products of inflammation from the circulatory system and other tissues. Third, it normalizes the gut bacteria so that the gut can better extract nutrients from food and also produce additional things that the body needs, such as melatonin. In addition, it prevents the COVID spike protein from clogging up a key cellular receptor, GPR109, which is one of the main ways COVID attacks the body.

If I were your friend, I would get started on the niacin protocol. It can't do any harm -- other than the temporary flush feeling -- and it's likely to do some good.

Walking is certainly a good complement to the amazing effects of niacin (the flush variety of vitamin B3).

It’s that time of year, flu season. I guess... I don’t trust the CDC any more than I’d trust one of the illegal Mexican gang members at Grocery Outlet.

Elderberry syrup is known for flu prevention and treatment, and here is my recipe. Probably posted someplace on the thread but since i have it in a folder on my desktop, here it is. Ask any questions if you have any. Elderberry breaks off the pokey things on the virus so it’s harder for them to get into cells, and also strengthens the cell walls. Probably does other stuff too, it’s a strong anti-oxidant. I’ve always bought my elderberries at Starwest Botanicals but I’m sure there are other places; Starwest often has stuff on Amazon.

Elderberry Syrup

I got this recipe from a very experienced herbalist who made and used it for years.

Note: I use dried berries and some berries are not cleaned very well – some batches are better than others. Go through your berries - I did it bit by bit on a plate and search through for stems or off colored berries. Then I sifted through a strainer to get smaller debris out. It didn’t take too long to go through a pound, and it makes a better product.

I make a pound at once and didn’t measure as she says above, I just put all berries into a large pot, covered with water, and let sit for 24 hours, then strained out the liquid and saved it, then poured boiling water on the berries again just to cover, let sit, and strained again. I did twist in a piece of fine cotton cloth as she describes. Keep in mind that elderberries could probably be used as a natural dye!

If you make a whole pound, you will need several bottles. I store in either alcohol bottles, either Clear Springs 180 proof grain alcohol, or glass juice bottles. Also, I did not follow her recipe precisely, I used just a bit less alcohol (I used Clear Springs grain alcohol which is twice as strong as vodka, just diluted it with an equal amount of water, either works) and a little less sweetener. I have used either raw sugar or honey depending on honey price.

Keep in mind that the honey or sugar acts as a preservative, and if you use much less it may go bad. You only take 1 Tablespoon at a time though. If you don’t want to use much or any sweetener, than you have to make a tincture, which uses a lot of alcohol. I did elderberry tincture once and much prefer making the syrup.

Elderberry Syrup Recipe

7 cups elderberry juice
8 ¾ cups honey
3 cups 80 proof vodka

Warm the elderberry juice to “hot, but not boiling” temp… between 150 and 180°F should be plenty. Stir in the honey and stir until it’s completely dissolved and blended.

Remove from the heat, and stir in the vodka. Cool down a bit so the vodka (or the high proof) doesn’t evaporate.

Pour into sterile jars or bottles (sterilize them by boiling for 5-10 minutes in boiling water, then let drip dry upside down until filling)

Cap and LABEL. Store in a cool DARK place (or bottle in dark brown glass)

Standard dose for adults would be:

Prophylaxis (prevention) 1 tablespoon 2x a day. If there is active flu in your office or family, double that, or take more often.

Treatment: 1-2 tablespoons every 3-4 hours

Children under 12: half the adult dose

Toddlers and infants: Talk to your doctor! But, lacking that, 1 tsp at similar intervals to the adult dose should be adequate.

There is NO way to overdose on this! Put it in juice, jello, pour it over ice cream- any way you can get the kids to take it is fine.

Alternatives:
If you do not want to use any alcohol in the syrup, use
7 cups elderberry juice
14 cups honey

Proceed as above, ignoring the reference to the vodka.

If you don’t want to use honey (probably best to NOT use it for babies under 1 year)

7 cups elderberry juice
11 ½ cups sugar

Thanks L.J.!

I have some Black Chokeberry bushes; they have some of the same benefits as Elderberry.

Thanks! That recipe is almost how I make homemade blueberry wine. I keep a good supply of moonshine around for most of my terrible lung issues, but the Elderberry sounds wonderful.

Ok, I’m not a regular in this group, but I think this situation might fall within the scope of the discussion here. Or someone can point me in the right direction.

It involves a close friend of a close friend; a guy I’ve never met but nevertheless, a friend of hers is a friend of mine.

Anyway, he has an ailment that is having a huge negative effect on his mobility. Yes, he’s seen many a doctor, and the consensus is that he has possibly ALC ((Lou Gehrig’s disease), or something called CIDP (Chronic Inflammatory Demyecinating Polyneuropathy).

Sorry about the long names, and sorry if this is the wrong group. Getting pretty hard for him, and I’m hoping on a slim chance, that there might be some homeopathic treatment that can help.

Oh, that is hard. As soon as I have time, sometime today, I will ping the list and see if anyone has any ideas or info, there are at least 40 people on the list. I will think of somethings that may possibly help and get back to you.

Posted by meyer, above. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience abut these conditions? I’ll post some possible ideas later. I don’t know about homeopathy, but I think meyer would like info about any natural methods that may help.

I will look extensively for it.
I know about the disease, but not the treatments.
It can only help, as knowledge is power!

May I also ask a favor/question?

My husband had colorectal cancer and had extensive chemo for it.
That was back in 2009.
(he is now cancer free, thank the Good Lord!)

BUT, he STILL has numbness and tingling in his finger tips.
What do you think might help?
Niacin, perhaps?

I was a Med Tech for almost 40 years, so can help answer questions about many medication, and am happy to offer any help should anyone need it!

Thank you and BLESS you guys for all that you do!

There may be various causes of tingling and I’m not a doctor.

If I were in his shoes, I’d visit a good chiropractor (ask friends for recommendations) and be checked for spinal issues impinging on the nerve that leads to that area.

I hope he finds relief!

Meyer; I do not know much about either of these, but the one sounds like something that affects the nervous system.

If your friend uses Canola Oil he should switch to other oils. It may affect the mylin sheath of the nervous system.

(Industry groups will say that it does not.)

https://www.agentnateur.com/blogs/agent-tips/say-no-to-canola

Thats the only thing I can come up with. Good luck!

I’ve been meaning to respond to you for some days. If you can find anything about these diseases meyer posted above, can you ping me? I will also search but since you have a medical field background you may grok the literature better than me. Nervous system? other? Regarding your husband’s finger situation, did it start at the same time as the cancer, or after the treatments? A very good chiropractor sounds helpful, and/or very good massage therapist.

ALC ((Lou Gehrig’s disease), or something called CIDP (Chronic Inflammatory Demyecinating Polyneuropathy).
