It looks complex, but it's just a few steps and with all your materials and things gotten out beforehand, ingredients measured, it's not difficult at all. I'l see if I can find a photo of the masher/ricer I use to press the liquid out. Well well that took me at least 10 seconds!

There may be other devices that work as well, main thing is you want to press as much of the liquid out as possible.

***Wild cherry bark, in case anyone is not familiar with it, does NOT taste sweet or like cherries; it is quite bitter like many barks. My cough syrup tastes pretty good though. Honey preserves it plus soothes the throat and even helps deliver the therapeutic effects***

Honey not only cuts the bitter taste but it is the world's oldest known antibiotic . . . Plus, have you ever heard a honey bee cough?! :^D

Thanks looks interesting. Made me think of my mom - she used to make a ⚡ cough syrup.

Lemon Juice, rock candy, and whiskey. Burned all the way down. LOL. She gave it to us kids too. Today, DFS would probably come knocking on the door.

I like to have this on hand as it just makes you feel better with any respiratory illness. It’s a large batch but can easily be made smaller. I usually make some in the fall for winter flu/sickness season.

Honey has gotten a lot more expensive and this uses a lot but it’s worth it. I usually buy honey currently for about $41 a gallon. Lot of $$$$....

I used to have one of those and it doesn’t work well for this because the chunks of bark and ginger, and seeds make it hard to do the grinding thing. Even a big colander can be used or very large strainer, such as for spaghetti.

cup of cough syrup is a pretty good sized dose.

Some places don’t allow sales of 180 proof but OR does, I use for tinctures and cough syrup. One cup 180 proof isn’t that much when the total volume (of last batch) was 1 3/4 gallons total cough syrup. I roughly figured it to be 10% alcohol per dose; so for I teaspoon or tablespoon, not that much. This syrup no one could or would want to drink a cup of!

Honey got a lot more expensive quite a few years ago due to colonly collapse, a sort of mysterious bee death attributed to various things, most likely mites, and/or pesticides on flowers especially fruit orchards. They have made a pretty good comeback, I think.

I have not heard a bee cough but have seen them yesterda carrying big pollen baskets!
